Under-18 fixture:

Cheltenham Town 0, Cardiff City 5

Connor Young and James Waite have had a busy couple of days with the Bluebirds.

The teenagers both played for Neil Warnock’s first team squad in their 1-0 win at Taff’s Well on Friday – and then joined Craig Bellamy’s under-18 squad the next morning.

Both went on during the second half of Cardiff’s friendly at Cheltenham’s training ground.

Waite, an energetic and busy midfield player, replaced Anthony Pilkington early in the first half at Taff’s Well.

Pilkington scored the only goal of the match after seven minutes, but then limped off with a minor muscle problem.

Young, the son of former Cardiff defender Scott, took over from fellow teenager Cameron Coxe at right-back in the fixture against the Welsh League Wellmen.

Both then played half of the under-18 pre-season fixture against Cheltenham, going on after the break.

Bellamy used 21 players in all with Connor Davies involved for most of the game.

It was an impressive team performance by the young Bluebirds, who dominated against Cheltenham in Gloucestershire.

Bellamy’s under-18s are again in action next weekend against Barnet, while some of his group will be in Cardiff City’s under-23 squad for their pre-season tour to Cornwall.

Andy Legg and Jarrad Harvey are in charge of the development team, who have three fixtures in seven days.

Legg and Harvey take their team to Cornwall in midweek where they will link up with Warnock’s first team.

Cardiff City’s under-23 team play St Austell away on Thursday at Poltair Park (7pm) and then play Bideford at the Sports Ground two days later (2pm).

Their third pre-season fixture is against Southern League Premier Division Hereford United at Edgar Street on Wednesday, July 26 (7.45pm).

First Half: Warren Burwood (gk), Connor Davies, Adam Sharif, Jack Bodenham, Sam Parsons, Ryan Reynolds, Keiron Proctor, Sam Bowen, Henry Smith, Sion Spence, Cavan Williams.

Second Half: George Ratcliffe (gk), Connor Davies, Trystan Jones, Connor Young, Alfie Madden, Keenan Patten, Taz Mayembe, Laurence Wootton, Trialist, James Waite.
