I have seen him several times and he has always been superb.

First time I saw him Shaking Stevens was sitting in the row behind us - he was a good laugh when we had a chat in the interval.

Because you move away, means you don't still love where you were born? Are you for real?

And what's wrong in wanting a better life and going where the big money is ?

Do you think it's a De Lie lah then ?

You can take the man out of Wales but you can't take Wales out of the man

I saw him about twenty years ago in Vegas. It was a long full big theatre season and we had tickets near the front. Just before he sang sweet grass of home an image of a red dragon appeared on the set and he talked about Wales.
He asked if anyone from Wales was in the house, and being from a tiny little nation of 3 million I expected only me and my mrs to be the only shout out, Jesus one in 10 must have been Welsh !!!

We do travel well.

Could be the nicest bloke in the world.
I've never met him so to say I don't like him is a bit harsh.
Just seems like he thinks hes the bees knees when really his music is crap.

My family members like the guy so maybe its just my age. :thumbright:

Music choice is objective so you are entitled to your opinion. But I love Tom Jones' style and his Welsh persona and a TJ gig seems to mean so much more to any Welshman/Woman in attendance :D

I saw him in vegas in the mid 80s at the MGM and it was the same then, more Welsh people than I thought there would be & while I enjoyed the show after reading his book they weren't his best days.

As for the comment about him moving away from Wales, that's where the money was for him so that's where he went. All of us that have left leave for different reasons, doesn't make us any less Welsh & proud of it.

Re: " Tom Jones "

We were lucky enough to see him as the 'secret' guest act at Glastonbury 1992 and he was the first of the now regular classic Sunday slots. You have to remember it was still a proper edgy underground festival back then and a million miles from what it is now. It attracted a very different crowd. The Shamen had owned Saturday night and the indie dance crossover scene was where it was at and lots of new music going on. And zero TV coverage thank god too.

So on the Sunday at the Pyramid, a few folks gathered to see who this secret guest was, all a bit worse for wear and really not to bothered in the sun, resting ahead of the final evenings blowout. Then it was announced that it was Tom Jones and folks looked around and shrugged.

But as soon as he and his Philly soul band struck up, it was instantly so good that the thousands lying down in that field got up and ran to the stage. That was the performance that relaunched his career and also to a new generation - folks were looking around and smiling as he was just that good.

Proper talent and a great bloke who is still down to earth.
