Because Cardiff can treat it like a cup clash

It sounds a little daft to say such a thing, especially if Cardiff are to see themselves as someone who can share the same promotion ambitions as Villa.

However, Warnock hinted at it last week when he claimed that promotions are won at places like Burton whereas games against Aston Villa and the like take care of themselves.

It is not say that Warnock won't take the same care and consideration into how to stop – and how to attack – Steve Bruce's side.

But he'll know that he might be able to play on the big-game feel of a 20,000-plus crowd (including a sizeable away support) and motivate his own side to find that extra fuel in reserve to upset a side with players more used to Premier League or international environments.

Villa may well be used to it being such a giant club in the second tier, but that doesn't mean they have yet learned to cope with it. Certainly, whereas Cardiff have plenty to gain, even at this early stage of the season – and especially after having failed to win their opening fixture against Hull last weekend – they have more to lose.
