They have not played each other for years since the original darlo went bust.

Anyone who knows me well annis knew I lived in York for a few years as a young kid as my father was in the army. obviously when I lived there I went to watch them home and away lots of northen games up that way such as scarborough/ rochdale / bury/ bradford but when back down to wales on visits to family it was Cardiff but that was my fix while living away in the forces as a child and early teen.

Had some cracking memorys of bootham cresent and away days back in the day including going in the York away end with 1500 City fans back in div 3 when us and York was up the top of div 3 going for promotion also beating Man utd in the cup away with paul barnes tearing man utd a new arse upfront sure it was 5-1 the result.

I lived on an army barracks estate which was 20mins from the ground so was ideal for me for a football fix as york was the closest team. There was T.A territorial army yard next to the ground which id sometimes watch games off the roof there as it over looked the away end above the toilets which was handy as my father was part of that also

Great memories and story Ian :thumbright:
True Ian, they haven't played for years but Darlington take regularly 1,000 away.

Yeah I remember whne they went through darlo they hadnot long had a new ground built and was getting crowds of like 800 odd due to some parasite owner who basically ripped them off and sold whatever he could.

There well supported now for a non league club although they have climbed some leagues and only one league from the conference :bluescarf:

It is great support , but a pretty easy trip for them. Only an hour`s drive or 30 minutes on a direct fast train.

I think Darlington will be a bit like Hereford in their newly promoted league (same one as Merthyr) - a biggish club with a bit of money behind them.

Keith, you've just said it, only an hrs drive, but we are talking about lower league football and not Championship football.

It puts some Championship clubs to shame.

Darlington get 3,000 home crowds, Some Championship clubs get 18,000 plus.

Yes Ian, its a long way back to League football, it took Newport 25 yrs, hopefully Darlington and York don't have to wait that long. :thumbright:
