The reasons Cardiff City won't consider selling 'priceless' Kenneth Zohore
By Paul Abbandonato

Bluebirds have just reconnected with the fan base and letting Zohore go would instantly send out the wrong message

There is an age-old saying in football that every player has his price, which is obviously true. Witness Gylfi Sigurdsson, Philippe Coutinho and Neymar.

On a much lower scale we have Kenneth Zohore and Cardiff City.

Hull and Brighton, amongst Zohore’s suitors, are hardly Everton, Barcelona or PSG, although there are plenty of others eyeing the Bluebirds front-man.

But it doesn’t really matter who it is. Right at this moment in time Zohore is priceless to Cardiff and the club have no intention of selling.

One day they will, with Warnock pledging: “It will only be to a top 10 Premier League club,” before pointing out: “And I can tell you it’ll be for a lot more than £10m, too.”

His way of dismissing what he feels is a derisory bid from Hull.

Anyhow, why on earth would Zohore wish to go there?

Of course, Cardiff’s refusal to countenance Hull's reported offer will be music to the ears of Bluebirds fans more accustomed to seeing their top players moved on for hefty sums of money.

Dating back from John Toshack in the early 1970s, through Danny Gabbidon, Rob Earnshaw, Graham Kavanagh, Joe Ledley, Aaron Ramsey and more recently David Marshall, the Bluebirds have historically sold their leading stars when other clubs come calling.

Vincent Tan could also be forgiven, in a way, for wishing to recoup some of his money by accepting the £10m on the table from Hull.

But Cardiff will continue resist and there are various reasons why.

The first, and most important one, is that it would send out completely the wrong message to the fans. This is most certainly not the time to do that.

Under Warnock’s guidance, the Bluebirds have had a much-needed reconnect with their supporter base.

You simply can’t quantify what that means that in monetary terms. It is bigger than anything. Priceless.

Selling Zohore would instantly undo much of that good work, demoralise the fans, crush the new-found love affair, halt the magnificent momentum being built.

Zohore, more than any other player on the books, can’t be sold for that reason alone, but there are other grounds too.

Cardiff have roared to the top of the Championship and have intentions of staying there or thereabouts. If Zohore goes, who is going to fire the goals?

Football is not a one-man game, but he will be the difference this season between the Bluebirds challenging for promotion and being merely a mid-table team.

Hull and Brighton are completely the wrong clubs anyway. Warnock feels Zohore is a lot better than that. If he scores the 20-plus goals many anticipate this season, Zohore will become a £20m-plus player in today’s market and net the Bluebirds double the money currently being talked of.

What also has to be factored into this is the player’s own self-interest. Zohore is settled in Cardiff, enjoying being the main man, feels he can improve further under Warnock’s management for another 12 months and that he kind of owes the Bluebirds something.

His career wasn’t really going anywhere before Cardiff took a chance on him from little known Belgian club KV Kortrijk.

It still wasn’t really igniting in the Welsh capital, before Warnock came on board, spotted the raw natural talent and, more importantly, used his man-management skills and expertise to tap into it.

What a player Cardiff suddenly have. Zohore is big, strong, physical, good in the air, scores wonder goals, links play, has a deft touch and just happens to be lightning quick too.

That is some package for any centre-forward and no defender will fancy crossing paths with him this season, particularly given fellow fliers Junior Hoilett and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing are his partners in crime on the flanks.

You almost had to look on in disbelief against Aston Villa last weekend as one by one Zohore single-handedly took on, and terrorised, James Chester, Neil Taylor and John Terry.

We’ve seen enough of Chester and Taylor with Wales to know they are quick and highly capable defenders, but at times they appeared positively pedestrian as Zohore left them standing with his sudden bursts of pace.

Football being what it is, and with centre-forwards the most precious commodity of the lot, it is inevitable other clubs have woken up to Zohore’s many talents.

What’s not to like? But Cardiff have slapped the proverbial "Not for sale!" tag on his back.

Saturday’s opponents Wolves will certainly mark him down as dangerman number one for the mouth-wateirng top of the table showdown at Molineux.

Bluebirds legend Nathan Blake reckons this is a game where the big players will step up. If so, we can expect Zohore to be hugely influential again.

I’m told the transfer talk is not affecting him, his only focus is on keeping Cardiff up around the top.

Zohore knows that at some point in the future, he will leave Cardiff City for big money.

Right at this moment in time, he is simply priceless.

If we sell Zohore then we can kiss a promotion challenge goodbye!

I'm more than confident he will stay but still always looking over my shoulder!

It will take a bid of £30m from a top 10 Premier League club before a transfer during this window will even get consideration, and that's not going to happen.

However, the January window might be the one where we might encounter problems, especially if his progress continues and he has bagged 10-15 goals by then.
