BREAKING NEWS: TRANSFER WINDOW TO CLOSE EARLY FOR PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS

Premier League clubs have voted to close next summer's transfer window before the season starts.

Managers have complained that the ability for players to move when the season is under way causes disruption to their squads and preparations.

From next season, the window will close at 17:00 BST on the Thursday before the Premier League season begins.

The decision was not unanimous and does not impact upon the length of the window in the Football League.

But the move means Premier League clubs will not be able to sign or sell players when their season is under way, while other European leagues will continue to allow such movement until 31 August.

That will cause an even bigger panic/scramble for the best players.

I agree it will simply move the bottleneck to the beginning of August rather than the end. Also what will they do about the January window which is open when clubs are competing in Premier League, surly that is just as disruptive?

This has a one season wonder written all over it, especially as the big clubs like United and City voted against it and their influence generally gets through eventually.

Next summer will be very interesting because the World Cup will have a huge disruption on the summer window. WC is not scheduled to finish until mid July and the PL window shuts on the 5th August. That doesn't leave a lot of time to get transfers done.
