Ned, this is great news for us all! :thumbright:

I rate Etheridge but there's nothing like a bit of healthy competition to sharpen any player's performance! :ayatollah:

Burnley U23s 0-4 Cardiff City U23s

The Clarets’ Development Squad conceded three late goals to suffer a third successive defeat in the Professional Development League.

BURNLEY FC

Michael Duff’s side trailed 1-0 at the break before going on to take control for a spell after half-time.

But they could not force an equaliser and were over-run late on as a strong Cardiff side netted three times in the closing 12 minutes to deliver a harsh lesson.

Cardiff included first-team squad men Greg Halford, Omar Bogle and Anthony Pilkington – as well as former Nothern Ireland goalkeeper Lee Camp – as their quote of permitted ‘over-age’ players.

And Bogle and Pilkington struck the crucial second and third goal to give the Bluebirds -watched by first-team coach and ex-Clarets’ striker Ronnie Jepson – their third win of the campaign.

Bogle, who joined Cardiff from Wigan Athletic in August, missed an early chance before his header from a Jamie Veale corner was superbly saved by Aidan Stone.

But from the resulting corner, Oliver Younger was only able to power an attempted clearing header into the top corner of his own net to give Cardiff a 1-0 lead.

A Tinashe Chakwana effort saved by Camp was the nearest Burnley came to scoring before half-time.

But Duff’s young side responded well after the break following the introduction of Dwight McNeil and Khius Metrz.

The Clarets were the better side for a spell but Metz finished weakly as his effort was saved by Camp, impressive Welshman Jamie Thomas curled an effort just wide and McNeil saw an effort deflected past the post.

And Cardiff then made their experience count as they killed the game off.

Bogle headed in a cross from Cameron Coxe before the winger also supplied the chance for Blackburn-born former Norwich and Huddersfield winger Pilkington to fire home the third.

And then with virtually the last kick of the game, Pilkington fed Mark Harris to slot home and give the visitors a somewhat flattering 4-0 win.

Burnley: Stone, Birch (Clarke 33), Koiki, Nabi, Flowers, Younger, Bayode (McNeil ht), N'Guessan, Limb (Metz ht), Thomas, Chakwana. Subs: Bruce, Howarth.

Cardiff: Camp, Paterson, Abbruzzese, Veale, Duffus, Young, Coxe, Halford, Bogle (Gaydu 84), Pilkington, Harris. Subs: Jonbes, Byrne.

And this report of the game just come through from CCFC:

CARDIFF CITY FC

Lee Camp and Callum Paterson featured on their returns from injury as Cardiff City DVP recorded an emphatic away victory over their Burnley counterparts.

Jarred Harvey included a number of first team players as he took his side to Lancashire, where they faced Burnley for a 2pm kick-off on Monday 18th September.

The first chance of the game fell to the Bluebirds' captain on the day, Anthony Pilkington. However, the forward saw his seventh-minute effort go just wide of Aiden Stone’s goal.

The Bluebirds dominated possession in the early periods and were unlucky not go ahead when Omar Bogle saw his close-range header saved at the back post by Stone in the 36th minute.

However, City deservedly broke the deadlock just a minute later. Mark Harris’ corner was unintentionally converted by Claret’s defender Oliver Younger - his own goal making it 1-0 to the visitors.

Cardiff had to defend their lead just before half-time as Lee Camp produced a terrific stop to deny Tinashe Chakwana. This save was enough to see Harvey’s side go into the break with a one goal advantage at Barnfield.

Ten minutes after the interval, Camp was tested again but comfortably held onto Jamie Thomas’ strike from distance.

Michael Duff’s side turned on the pressure in the second period as they went in search of an equaliser. Despite their efforts the Bluebirds remained resilient at the back and made it 2-0 as the match approached the final 10 minutes. Bogle was the man to score - nodding in Cameron Coxe’s brilliant delivery to extend Cardiff’s advantage.

With just five minutes remaining City scored their third of the afternoon. Pilkington tapped in from close range at the back post, with the Bluebirds now well out of sight.

But it wasn’t over yet, as an impressive City continued to press for another goal. They were rewarded deep into added time when the lively Harris made it 4-0. This rounded off the scoring on a superb outing for Cardiff City’s Development squad.

The Bluebirds' third win of the campaign sees them climb to seventh in the table. They next face Charlton Athletic on Monday 25th September for a 2pm kick-off at Leckwith International Stadium.

My Opinion City did awful under Craig Bellamy and needed coaches who could fully concentrate on the DVP full-time :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Annis, is Bellamy still there?

He’s on Sky’s new show called “The Debate” a lot, and often talks about the kids at City when they’re talking about club’s academies.
