ANOTHER REJECTED CARDIFF YOUNGSTER LINKED WITH BIG MOVE

Mon Sep 18, 2017 1:45 pm

Norwich City are eyeing up a move for Newport County defender Jay Foulston, as reported by the South Wales Argus.

The 16-year-old made his Newport debut in the League Cup against Southend United, coming on as a second half substitute at the start of August.

He has reportedly spent a bit of time training at the Norwich camp, and the Canaries have now shown interest in the youngster.

Jay was released while in our under 16s side. This is yet another talented youngster we've let go. Regan Poole is another we let go to Newport who has of course joined Manchester United. With Tom Lockyer at Bristol Rovers also impressing, how many talented kids have we let go???

None yet. Tom Lockyer would be nowhere near out first team and is playing at a lower level. Neither of the other two are playing regular first team football yet. Start this thread again when they have achieved something.

Exactly all clubs let go youngsters who make it later in their careers....the 3 mentioned above have achieved absolutely nothing so far

Bet other clubs have said same thing about youngsters being let go and signing several years later for a higher league club? but are still waiting to make impact at new club. :old:

Sorry but for everyone who has said they haven't made an impact yet are a bit daft. They're young lads, of course they haven't. Regan is 18. This lad is 16 and Lockyer is 22. Lockyer is performing very well for Rovers. At these ages of course they're not setting the world alight. It's their potential you have to look at and they have huge potential. It's shocking that Manchester United have picked up a boy we deemed not good enough. United aren't daft. Lockyer and Foulton are linked with Championship clubs which are our level.

Exactly! These are just 3 examples. There's more I probably didn't even know about. We've lost Rabbi Matondo who went to Man City which we claimed was out of our hands but actually we took our time offering him a pro contract and he was susceptible to leaving us and we could do nothing about it. And hey ho he went to one of the biggest clubs in the world due to us being so slow.

People Maybe bit daft but kids do make the 1st team in premiership and championship at 16! So could say kids mentioned are a bit slow in developing! So question is how long do clubs wait to see if good enough? :old:
And lots clubs suffer from doing same thing letting players go at early age! Thats football

Or you could look at it another way we have picked up Holliett, Samba, Bennett,Etheridge, Ralls, Gunnerson, Damour, and MendezLaing for nothing from other clubs who released them as many of them they didn't think they were good enough to be offered new contracts

What happened to the youngster from the Rhondda-Lofty's[ rip] son who was let go by us a few years ago, and went to Man Utd? Pretty sure he was captain of the youth team, can't remember his name, anyone help?

No one has been proved right or wrong yet with any of them. When they are doing well regularly at a higher level then you can but at the moment no.

More like another one not good enough at the time !!!!

1000's of players leave one club then improve and make it somewhere else, all it says about that one is canaries are showing interest big deal.

As far as I know he is not playing any football and released by Utd He was never captain of the youth team his name was Delcan Dalley

Happens with all clubs.

You have to look at Nemanja Matic at Chelsea and Paul Pogba at Man Utd.

Both clubs let these players go after having them at a young age, and Chelsea re-signed Matic for £20m while Man Utd resigned Pogba for £89m.

He had to retire from football due to knee injury problems. Was doing well at United prior to his injuries. Didn't him signing for United cause an argument between his agent and Dave Jones about whether city offered him a new contract or if we just realised him?

Our supporters are so harsh I would hate to see a youngster giving a change and get crucified like Ben Wilson Declan John and only last week Etheridge was blamed for everything.

Youngsters when giving a chance has to be supported but wouldn't be on here it is not just the manager the coaches and team the supporters have to play their part too in supporting the youngsters

He was released at the same time as my son both had a history of injuries To be fair to Cardiff Declan was third choice centre back at the time and anyone looking at it would have made the decision two other centre backs were approached by Liverpool and Arsenal but stayed at city

QPR got rid of Hoillett due to his wages. Monk and Bamba didn't get along at Leeds. Ralls we nicked off Aldershot as they were yet to offer him a pro deal. Gunnarsson left Coventry because they weren't in a good financial state. Damour and Mendez-Laing rejected a new contract to join us. Literally neither of these players were deemed "not good enough". So any more examples?

Chelsea are the worst for this due to their conveyor belt of youth players. Pogba I believe fell out with Fergie and left. Utd rated him very highly

This big move was all over the Australian press today. It's incredible that we let such a huge talent leave. I heard mighty Norwich pipped Barcelona and Milan to his signature.
Warnock out!

Don't think anyone mentioned this was a massive move, so not quite sure why you're pulling out the sarcasm. BUT Norwich are pretty much our level. So why are we letting go this guy when they think he's good enough? He's been to a few clubs in the Championship and spent time with them.

To be fair Ben Wilson is now 25. Not exactly young and he was shocking for us in goal. Etheridge is 27 so again, not a young player by any means. I've not personally seen many people slate Declan. Think most people agree he is not a full back, more of a winger. I think 'City fans are probably the best around for wanting to nurture youngsters, simply because of the lack of talent we've had since a golden era with Collins, Ramsey, Ledley, Gunter, etc. coming through. The problem has to be with who ever is making the decisions to let these youngsters go. We've let go countless players who go straight down to Newport County and have started playing first team football for them at 16 and are being watched by a few clubs.

been questioning the point of us having one for years..
all that money then when it gets to under 18s /19s etc we just ship in new kids who have failed at bigger academies..
Wales as a nation let alone Cardiff has at no point mass produced young talented footballers.
going right back to our begingings as a league club in the 20s the 1st team {just like every other club } wasnt full of young locals ,it was full of english ,scotish and irish imports.

We're a small nation, wouldn't expect us to mass produce at any point in time. The only countries that do mass produce these talents have massive populations so a larger pool of players are available.

IF you're not committed to producing a successful academy then it won't succeed. Simple as that. If you put enough resource and effort into it, you will produce. Follow the big clubs, Manchester City, Chelsea, United, etc. are pumping more money and resource into their academies like never before and they're not silly clubs doing silly things - we should follow suit and we WILL reap the benefits in years to come.

The idea of academies was good at time of inception! But now clubs only want instant success and its only smaller clubs want them in hope of unearthing a talent to sell as an income, it's certainly not to play for club! Crewe are the past masters of it but look where its got them? (Nowhere) :o
