Sunderland trio doubtful for Cardiff City clash, but key duo return

Sunderland trio Aiden McGeady, Marc Wilson and John O'Shea are doubts for the Championship visit of Cardiff City.

But Simon Grayson has been boosted by the return of Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway, who both missed the midweek League Cup defeat to Everton due to the terms of their loan agreement.

McGeady has not kicked a ball since turning out for the Republic of Ireland in their World Cup qualification draw with Georgia, while O'Shea's last outing was in the home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Wilson got 90 minutes under his belt last time out in the league against Hull City but was absent from the squad at Goodison Park in midweek.

Meanwhile, Grayson is hopeful his side can turn a corner this weekend with a long-awaited home win against the Bluebirds.

"It's been like groundhog day. We play well for 20 minutes in games then get nothing," he said of his player's recent performances.

"Hopefully we can get a win then go on a nine month unbeaten run. We have not had the breaks this season. Sometimes you need things to go for you.

"Last season at Preston we got off to a poor start then we played Wigan and Jordan Hugill scored one of his backside and we went on a run. We went 30 games and lost about three games. We can do that here."
