More Reliable Than A Championship Octopus? (18/10/17)

Wednesday 18th October 2017

Time for the special computer that crunches the numbers to determine the final Championship positions for the season of 2017/18.

Last season the Octopus feature was a late arrival for the Championship - it was off having its tentacles given a Brazilian for all I know.

Then again I still don't know why I call a number crunching supercomputer an Octopus but some things are probably best left unasked.

In any event here are the updated Championship predictions for the season of 2017/18 after most sides have played at least twelve games of the campaign.

Who goes down?! Who is the current favourite to lift the title this year?

With most playing twelve games in the Championship in the season of 2017/18, the current favourite to lift the title are Wolverhampton Wanderers with 101 points, with Leeds United sitting in second on 91.

The Play Off spots are also pretty nailed on if the predictions are to be believed - Preston North End (miss out on second by goal difference), Sheffield United, Cardiff City and Aston Villa are all four points or more ahead of the nearest challenger (Leeds United) in seventh place.

At the other end of the table it also pretty nailed on with Sunderland, Burton Albion and Bolton Wanders all predicted to fail to reach more than 30 points for the campaign. The table predicts Birmingham City will be in 21st spot but eight points clear of the relegation zone.

The one thing that can't be ignored though is there is a hell of a lot of football still to be played and sides start well and fade away and others find form as the months tick by, but this is a bit of fun - I wouldn't bet your house on it!

The predictions are a reflection on the season so far, and absolutely nothing more, and in most cases the next fixture weekend could cause wholescale changes to the table.

The only number two spot the Wurzels will have this season is the one in their underpants when they just manage to avoid relegation yet again.
'Nail 'em up,' I say. 'Nail some sense into 'em.'
