Etheridge earns a clean sheet with better display
Sunday 22nd October 2017
Neil Etheridge had to take his share of the blame at St Andrew’s for his weak clearance that invited Che Adams to open the scoring.
At the Riverside he showed he wasn’t willing to make the same mistake as he showed a good alertness and gave Cardiff an assured presence behind the back three. He didn’t have any big saves to make as such, but with Middlesbrough trying to split the defence and chase balls through, there were several occasions where the Philippines international had to make quick decisions to come and deal with potential danger.
He didn’t mess around, with one headed clearance a delight. There was some late miscommunication with Bruno Manga and a bit of a subsequent brain freeze, but he earned this fifth clean sheet of the season as much as the defenders

Second that it had nothing to do with his clearance poor play back to him coupled by incompetent defending
Genuinely don’t understand why there’s people out to get him better than any of the keepers we had last season by a mile

It was not a poor clearance. It was stand off defending which caused the goal. For god sake get off Neil's back, he has been brilliant to date. Everyone seems to be waiting for Camp to come in but Camp is NOT a better keeper.

The number one function of a keeper is to stop the ball going into the goal. He is an excellent shot-stopper (best even that Marshy). I am well happy with the guy

The clearance went to half way line how far must it go to be good kick? And was he responsible for their player beating 4/5 outfield players to score!

We have the best defensive record in the Championship. Etheridge has to take a lot of the credit for that.

More than happy to have him as no1. For me he's been a great signing

Wish he was Welsh!

I don't see where the criticism comes from for him, poor lad has been exceptional since being here.

He's shone since he's started in what is the most specialised and pressured position on the pitch. I was and am a massive Marshall fan but NE has been superb and will only get better. Really impressed with Murphy too, a very good and dependable GK. I know Lee Camp is also excellent and with the three pushing for a start, the performance level is going to be superb.
And of course, having Kevin Blackwell as assistant manager (former GK) and Andy Dibble as GK coach for me ensures the quality needed for the most important position on the pitch.
