Is Cardiff City's Omar Bogle belatedly proving a point to Leeds United?

Struggling Leeds United snubbed Omar Bogle in January - but the Cardiff City frontman now has two goals in two starts.

Omar Bogle could not have timed his red card in Cardiff City’s 2-1 defeat at Bristol City at the weekend any worse.

Not only did it leave his side down to ten men and inadvertently paved the way for The Robins’ win, it also brought a premature end to his best run of form in England’s second tier.

Bogle was given an opportunity in the Championship by Wigan Athletic in January after a prolific run of form down in League Two with Grimsby Town. Scoring just three times in 15 games, however, Bogle failed to prove that he was ready to make the step up with The Latics eventually suffering relegation.

And since being offered an escape route by Cardiff, the 24-year-old was still waiting to really make his mark. Until last week.

Bogle capped his maiden Championship start for Neil Warnock’s side with a goal in Tuesday’s 3-1 win against Ipswich Town – and repeated the trick with a well-taken equaliser at Ashton Gate on Saturday. Before, of course, that second-half red-card curtailed his recent resurgence.

Nonetheless, this is perhaps the first time that Leeds United may be regretting their decision to snub Bogle in the January transfer window.

Grimsby director John Fenty told the Grimsby Telegraph that Leeds pulled out of a deal to sign Bogle in January – but they won’t have been too worried with the powerful striker struggling to make a positive impression at Wigan.

Though with Leeds’ season falling apart thanks to a run of six defeats in seven games, Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s struggles and Caleb Ekuban’s injury has coincided unfortunately with Bogle’s belatedly stand-out performances at Championship level.

Suddenly, Bogle looks like he would have come in handy at Elland Road.
