BREAKING NEWS:

CHRIS COLEMAN HAS RESIGNED AS WALES MANAGER AND IS EXPECTED TO TAKE THE MANAGER’S JOB AT SUNDERLAND

FAW STATEMENT

Regretfully, Chris Coleman has resigned from his position as Wales National Team Manager with immediate effect.

Chris was appointed manager in January 2012 in very difficult circumstances and has guided Wales to the semi-finals of EURO 2016, an incredible achievement that inspired a nation.

Jonathan Ford, Chief Executive of the Football Association of Wales, said: “We are extremely disappointed to see Chris’ tenure as Wales manager come to an end.

“The FAW and Wales as a nation will be eternally grateful for the job he has done over the last six years as National Team Manager, from travelling the length and breadth of Wales outside of the media spotlight to talk to players and supporters, to guiding us to the semi-finals of the European Championships.

“We wish Chris the very best of luck for the future as he returns to club management, a desire for which he has always been honest and open about.”

Kit Symons has also resigned from his position as National Team Coach and the FAW would like to put on record its gratitude for his commitment to the Wales National Team.

BBC Sport:

Chris Coleman has left his job with Wales to take over at Championship club Sunderland.

Coleman will succeed Simon Grayson, who was sacked after 18 games in charge.

Former defender Coleman succeeded the late Gary Speed as Wales boss and guided them to an historic appearance at Euro 2016, where they reached the semi-finals.

Disappointment followed as Wales failed to reach the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

Not concerned about him going.

I think he expected offers to come flooding in and they didn't, stuck at crappy Sunderland now.

Not many Welsh options to take over though.

This is as expected after the panama game. You could see he wanted something else.

This is a backward step though in my opinion and he could have done better. He will be on the scrapheap within a year going to sunderland.

I would like to see bellamy give it a go with his passion as long as he is backed with experience. Maybe a Harry Redknapp figure or a Tony pulis as a part time #2.

I agree, but used the same headline as most of the press were using and what the FAW have said.

Time for the WFA to employ a top coach to guide the young players coming through

The cost of a good coaching staff will be nothing if we can qualify for the finals of 2020 Euro

The rewards for qualifying will pay for the coaching staff many times over

Now is the time for the WFA to get the best coach available from anywhere in the world

I'm not much of an international football fan but it is clear to see that Chris Coleman (a man vilified when he took over from his best mate the late Gary Speed) has done a pretty good job for Wales and deserves an opportunity to see what he can do back in the real football world!

Is Sunderland the right choice (maybe the only one?) only time will tell but my personal opinion is that he'll turn them around to a comfortable id-table team this season before the pressure really ramps up for him and his club next season when expectations on both him and the club will be huge!

I'm not sure why he left the Wales negotiations so suddenly (whisper has it that the FAW wanted to do things 'on the cheap' again in comparison to other home nations) but Wales will survive and barring the appointment of a certain ex-Man Utd winger, they will have a team that can take Wales to the next Euros and hopefully the next World Cup in Qatar

Now they just need to find a manager who can stitch the team together! :ayatollah:

I think Coleman knew that we have had our moment of glory, and what happened in the Euros is not likely to ever be repeated. Wales reached a peak, and are only likely to go downhill from there. Now was a good time to go before his reputation starts to fade, and I think most of us know that what happened in those Euros was a once in a lifetime experience if you are a Welsh football fan.

He’s going to regret that move career wise I reckon, I guess it’s a few million in the bank whatever. Obv always be remembered fir the Euros but like he himself often said, he was very fortunate to manage that group at that time. His win and loss rate was almost the same, not that great.

Is this the same guy who after the Euros said that he was looking for a job with perhaps a top club in Europe?

Well, at least Sunderland is in Europe.

He'll have gone from Euro semi finals to League 1 manager in less than 2 years :o :o

Hopefully the money is worth it!

I don't want giggs either but if we stay with a welsh manager who do we go for?

Please don't say pulis either the man is a dinosaur and won't get the best out of these players as he doesn't play football
He's good at what he does but he's not the man to continue the work with this group going forward

Maybe Bellamy is the best option at least he wanted to travel to play for Wales

How about an internal appointment like Rob Page? Could he be wales version of Southgate?

Personally I don’t think there’s any Welshman who is front runner for the job, maybe sparky might feel he’s got more to prove now he’s stagnant in the domestic game, otherwise it’ll be an appointment of a foreigner, maybe the Dutch bloke who wanted it after speed died
