' Cardiff City Team News ' :bluescarf:

Cardiff defender Lee Peltier returns from suspension and midfielder Aron Gunnarsson could make his first start for nearly two months. Gunnarsson suffered a muscle tear between his hip and thigh at the end of September before picking up an ankle injury a fortnight later.

But Gunnarsson played the final quarter of Saturday's victory against Brentford and Cardiff are hoping there was no adverse reaction. Kenneth Zohore (ankle) will be assessed, with Omar Bogle (suspension) joining long-term absentees Lee Camp, Kadeem Harris and Jazz Richards on the sidelines.

' Barnsley Team News '

Barnsley will be without suspended midfielder Joe Williams for their home game against Cardiff.

Williams, on loan from Everton, received his fifth booking of the season in Saturday's draw at Norwich and sits out a one-game ban. Defender Angus MacDonald is hoping to be fit, but will be assessed after sustaining a foot injury at Carrow Road so Jason McCarthy is on standby.

Winger Lloyd Isgrove will not feature due to the knee injury which kept him out at the weekend, while midfielder Gary Gardner (leg) and defender Adam Jackson (knee) remain sidelined.

About Barnsley

Barnsley Football Club is a professional association football club based in the town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. The team play in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Nicknamed "the Tykes", they were founded in 1887 by Reverend Tiverton Preedy under the name Barnsley St. Peter's. The club colours are red and white, and their home ground since 1888 has been Oakwell.

The name, Oakwell, originates from the well and oak tree that were on the stadium site when first built. Oakwell is a multi-purpose sports development in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, used primarily by Barnsley Football Club for playing their home fixtures, and their reserves. While the name 'Oakwell' generally refers to the main stadium, it also includes several neighbouring venues which form the facilities of the Barnsley F.C. academy – an indoor training pitch, a smaller stadium with seating on the south and west sides for around 2,200 spectators, and several training pitches used by the different Barnsley FC squads. Until 2003 the stadium and the vast amount of land that surrounds it was owned by Barnsley Football Club themselves; however, after falling into administration in 2002 the council purchased the main Oakwell Stadium to allow the club to pay its creditors and remain participants in The Football League.

In 2016, Barnsley won two trophies at Wembley Stadium – the Football League Trophy, beating Oxford United 3–2 in the final, and the 2016 Football League play-offs, beating Millwall F.C. 3–1 in the final. Barnsley became only the second club to secure both the Football League Trophy and Football League promotion via playoff finals in the same season, after Grimsby Town F.C.. Barnsley's main rivals are considered to be Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United, who both also play in the Championship.

Apparently Barnsley were the better side at Norwich today and have improved dramatically in the past few weeks.

Their manager has done a fantastic job.

Got my tickets so I'll see you all up there

It's a long trip for us, midweek very difficult with work.

I'm lucky that I have an important customer up North to see, so working a load of visits in Lancs and Yorks around the game.

Going to be a long couple of days

Otherwise there's no chance I could do it.

Thought Manga was excellent at right-back and deserves to keep his place. Hope Mendez returns, but I doubt that Zohore is fit yet. Ward had his best game for us anyway.

' NEIL WARNOCK UPDATING ON CARDIFF CITY PLAYERS '

Sunday 19th November 2017

NEIL WARNOCK:

"My thinking behind the midfield I set out against Brentford."

"I thought Loic Damour did a great job on (Ryan) Woods, and Gunnars gave us that lift when he came on. He just changed the tempo and got the crowd up aswell. The other lads worked really hard aswell. I'm pleased for Danny Ward, the applause he got was well deserved."

' Aron Gunnarsson '

"Aron Gunnarsson felt good yesterday. He did aggravate it a little bit in the warm up, he actually landed on Pilkington and just jarred it slightly. We left it to him to tell us if he felt he could do 20 minutes. If he didn't feel right we were going to leave him altogether. We didn't want to risk anything."

"It's obviously not cleared up altogether yet. Gunnars will play if he can whenever he can. Hopefully he'll have no reaction tomorrow and be available for Tuesday."

' Nathaniel Mendez-Laing '

"Nathaniel Mendez-Laing said he was 90% on Friday. I don't want to risk anybody, I'd rather him be ready. We can't afford a Ken Zohore, something that might be four or five weeks."

" Kenneth Zohore "

"Ken's is not looking overly good with him so we're going to see what happens with him."

' Frederic Gounongbe ' ' Bruno Manga ' Sol Bamba '

"Fred was breathing through his backside wasn't he. He did alright. He's done super in training this week. We had very little options, I thoughts Wardy might do 85 but at 80 he said he can't do anymore."

"It was a little bit scary when Junior went down having made all of the three subs, but he's the unsung hero at the minute. I've been delighted with him."

"Bruno was playing out of position and I thought he handled (Ollie) Watkins very well yesterday, Bamba nicked a lot of balls and gave us drive going forward, Mozza played the captain's role and it was Joe's first game for a long time against two really tricky players and then Etheridge made the saves."

I didn't want them to score late on and we managed to get a clean sheet which gives us a good platform to go to Barnsley.

Barnsley v Cardiff Sky Sports preview

20/11/17

' Barnsley Team News '

Joe Williams is missing for Barnsley through suspension

Opta stats

Barnsley have won one of their last eight home league matches against Cardiff (D2 L5), a 1-0 win in November 2009.

The Bluebirds haven't won any of their last three league games against the Tykes (D2 L1), drawing 0-0 at Oakwell last season.

Barnsley are currently on a four-match unbeaten run in the Championship (W2 D2) - the last time the Tykes went five unbeaten came back in May 2016 (a run of six).

Cardiff City have won five of their last nine away matches in the Championship (D1 L3), having previously gone six matches without an away victory (D3 L3).

Only Wolves (9) have kept more clean sheets in the Championship this season than the Bluebirds (7).

Really tough match. Barnsley are a good side and improving.

I would say that a draw would be a good result. If we want to stay close to the top two though, we really need a win. I’d expect Sheffield United and Wolves to win this week.

1-1 would be my prediction.

Can think of better places to be than Yorkshire on a wet November night. After watching us on Saturday, I am going for a home win. I can't see many teams being as charitable as Brentford were. I think we need a big improvement if we are going to pick up any points tonight. Just hope we can grind out some sort of result this evening.

Game over for Bennett?

Bennett has gone down for a second time, looked like just a slip this time!

Bennett down

Doesn’t look good for Joe Bennett, who is getting some treatment in the left-back position after taking an early clatter. Looks a bit groggy but gets back on his feet and should be ok to continue.

Great stuff from Paterson

Callum Paterson has put himself about early doors, winning a couple of headers on the right wing as Cardiff try to pen Barnsley in. Rolf Feltscher is doing an extended warm-up on the near touchline due to those concerns about Bennett.

Barnsley knocking it about quite nicely, but aren’t penetrating. Centre-back Liam Lindsay comes forward with the ball, is urged to shoot, but it’s blazed miles over. Etheridge’s distribution has been very mixed so far.
