UNBELIEVABLE BARNSLEY :

My View/Opinion

UNBELIEVABLE BARNSLEY :

Hats off to our next opponents Barnsley:

(1) Of the 18 players who will face us the eldest will be 25 - with only 1 who is 29.

(2) All their players came from the lower divisions and even those who are on loan from Premiere League clubs have only played on loan in the lower divisions.

My point is that we are playing a team whose average age is 23 and all of them have their experience in the lower divisions.

These guys are an honest to goodness no frills bunch who will run and run and fight for their lives and future. They can also score but their defence is suspect.

The club is run on a shoestring and doing their best with what they have. A true "working class" (as opposed to pedigree).

Their home support is barely 9,000 and that makes things tough in the Championship to survive.

That is why I admire them.

I wish them all the best but obviously not this Tuesday. We should win - but this is the Championship - so who knows?

Our main task is not underestimate them.

If they win their next game they are amazingly 3 points off the playoffs. I love the championship

Total respect . Takes some doing.

Then you look at Man City spending £1/4b on defence alone .

Not right

I compare them to yesterday’s opponents Brentford. Always try to play football, great passing and attacking team, lose all their best players to clubs with more money, yet remain competitive. Barnsley also seem to be good at rehabilitating players who’ve lost there way a bit, like Conor Hourihane.

Unfortunately for them, that makes vulnerable to teams like us with a more pragmatic approach. Let’s hope that we do a job on them on Tuesday like we did on Brentford yesterday.

Mike, its hard to keep a small club like Barnsley in the Championship and actually do well.

I agree they are like Brentford a good team who always plays good football fair play to them and deserve to stay in the league hope we beat them but don't want to see either Barnsley or Brentford even Burton go down

I might take a bit of flak for this but sometimes i think i would prefer us to be a good championship team than get into the premier league. Al i ever wamted was to see us make it and when we did i hated it

I've read a few topics on their forum and I have to say they are not too different to us in attitude and outlook.A bit different to the usual(and overtired)sheepshaggin, anti Welsh/Cardiff drivel.
