Women’s club football

Postby Blue_Barber » Sun Nov 19, 2017 1:10 pm

Over the last 10 - 20 years Women’s football across the globe has gone from strength to strength, especially within the English game, where they boast two levels of pro/semi pro teams.

The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and most recently Manchester City building up top teams of both British and foreign female superstars. The latter also sold one star player, Toni Duggan to Spanish giants FC Barcelona, also an England Rep.

However - although the women’s European cup final was hosted in Cardiff last season, is the game as strong as it should/could be in Wales?

England’s last manager was Taffs Wells born Mark Sampson so there could be plenty of know how to tap into at the welsh disposal despite his fall from grace.

None of the big sides though have a committed academy side, and trials to set strong regional sides have easily fallen apart due to poor structure and support. The FAW to seem increasingly keen to invest in the game from U16 up to the senior women’s side BUT there seems to be a missing piece trying to get this into schools and more clubs.

Cambrian & Clydach Academy are trying to change that - in January 2018 they will be holding trials for there first official foray into girls football, but could the main welsh clubs being doing more with Rep squad development?

Bristol City WFC have always been a strong pro academy centralised team, leading in the wales and South west to produce more female talent - so why no fuss with The welsh sides??

Seems silly having women's and men's goals being the same size. Saw a highlights of some game on BBC and the Birmingham (I think?) keeper was under 6ft. Same for the other team. They had no hope of reaching anything in the top corners or under the cross bar. It was like having U15s in goal.

Its a growth market for sure. I'm thinking of starting a kit laundry service for women's football teams where I guarantee a quick turnaround and also that I will absolutely not sell their soiled shorts to specialist Japanese buyers.
'Nail 'em up,' I say. 'Nail some sense into 'em.'

Well when your apart of a club like Man City etc why wouldn’t you expect the club to find it?? I’m not saying new start ups should have better funds put into it but I think the overall network of support should be a bit stronger from the leagues and development staff.

I think the female game is getting better and better all the time, I get to watch my daughter play at U11s even though she’s 9 because there’s no local age level for her but she holds her own. She wants to play and I think whether your a lad or a lass you should be entitled to do that with as much support as your opposite sex

I think personally this is where Cardiff City for one falls massively short
