Ian Roberts:

Really sick of our shite crowds, Saturday 75k will attend a pointless friendly for £80 , will get stuck in queues , pay £5 for a pint of piss and generally get ripped off all night in a horrible atmosphere. We are heading for the premiership or not with a top manager and honest players Ffs wake up fans and attend, there’s no excuses anymore

i just think that Cardiff is a 'big game/event' city without the dyed in the wool, deeply embedded football culture of, for example, Sheffield, Portsmouth or Sunderland - let alone that of Manchester, Liverpool or Glasgow.

Make no mistake though, as we all know Cardiff has always had the potential to attract enormous crowds for one off games whether for Cardiff City matches or for international football. The problem is, such crowds have never really been sustained. Vast crowds against the likes of Real Madrid and Hereford in the 70s were quickly back to poor attendances once the hype and 'big game' pull rode out of town. It was the same in the following decades too. I can remember queues stretching hundreds of yards when tickets went on sale for the Man City cup game on a Sunday morning in 1994. A few weeks later? Back to a quarter full Ninian Pk.

I'm guessing there's still a hardcore of support at Cardiff - perhaps a bit diminished after the rebrand.. but Cardiff for its size and catchment area just doesn't seem able to sustain consistently big crowds. I'm quite sure that if Cardiff get promoted there'll be a real clamour again for tickets but longer term once the novelty has worn off? I'm not so sure. Cardiff is a great place but is it a football city? Once again, I'm not so sure.

I think Ian and a lot of others just need to realise and accept that South Wales isn't the hot bed of football fanatics everyone thought it was Annis.

Even though Cardiff are well supported in the Valleys Rugby still pisses all over Football when it comes to playing and watching at amateur level.

Football Clubs folding all the time while you got Rugby Clubs thriving with sides from under 8's right up to senior sides with lots having a seconds side aswell.

All very true what you are saying.would it be different if city had a better history behind us though?.we haven't lifted a major trophy since 1927 .havent had a successful season in the top flight since 1954.abysmal really in comparison to most areas.yes we've been to Wembley 4 times in recent years but failed to win anything.won the championship but hey that weren't the blubirds that was the cringe worthy red brigade.Cardiff city's only genuine period of success was between 1920 and 1929 nearly 100 years ago !!!.

There sre lots of clubs bigger than us without success in past 40yrs or so? But the difference is they've got a big core of supporters whilst we tend to go up down with success, realistically 25k crowds for us are the reserve of a promotion chasing team, nothing in past 40 yrs suggest its been any different.

Why would people need an excuse to buy or not buy a ticket

If people want to go to games and think its financially worth it then they will, if not they wont. Saying we should have 25000 a game wont help.
My thoughts on the re-branding??

I totally agree he’s summed it up perfectly unfortunately. Even with all that he says people would still rather watch that than the bluebirds, it saddens me but it shows that people aren’t that bothered about CCFC.
But ill be there this Sunday with all the other bluebirds who gives a toffe about the rugby.

It's 49 clubs, but what shocked me was about 18 clubs have only had about 1-4 seasons max in there.
Many only one and two seasons.

Many clubs much smaller than us and not with 1.2million people in and around Cardiff and No other real competion from other football clubs for at least 40 miles, get bigger support home and away than us.

It's mainly the same old clubs up in the Premier League that survive for years.
