Neil Warnock looks like Ken Dodd, but he's NOT funny
By Kenny Burns (ex-player and now professional cake tester)

Reds leg end Kenny Burns looks at Forest's 2-0 defeat to Cardiff at the City Ground in his latest Post column

Is it me, or is Neil Warnock starting to look a bit like Ken Dodd? The only thing is I don’t find him funny.

He might have enjoyed a lot of success over the years as a manager, and he looks to be doing the business once again at Cardiff City, but he’s not my cup of tea.

I know Forest talked to him when they needed a manager a while back, but I’m glad that never came to anything, because I don’t like his attitude or the way his teams play.

He can have the three points from Sunday’s match between the Reds and Cardiff, I’d much rather have a manager like Mark Warburton in the home dugout at the City Ground – a likeable manager who gets his teams to play exciting, attacking football.

While Warburton will no doubt have sent his team out to try to play their flowing, attacking football, Warnock sent Cardiff out to time waste by the look of it.

They had two players booked for wasting time in the match. Two! And don’t get me started on Craig Bryson. Has he left the pitch yet?

Warnock obviously came out after the final whistle and insisted his players were not wasting time, but it was blatant.

It was clearly part of their game plan.

They must have seen that if Forest get into the stride, if they start knocking it about with pace, they are hard to stop as an attacking force, so he sent his team out to disrupt the flow of the match from the first minute to make sure that didn’t happen.

Some people will say that was brilliant tactics, but it’s not. It doesn’t take great coaching on the training ground to come up with a plan to take ages over set-pieces or substitutions. Anyone can do that.

Cardiff should not have been allowed to get away it, it’s that simple.

Forest should also have been given a penalty. It was a stonewall spot-kick when their lad, Bruno Manga, handled the ball inside the box, so a big decision went against them.

It’s a shame because it looked like Forest were starting to gather some momentum on home soil.

Four wins on the trot, against Sheffield United, Burton Albion, QPR and Norwich City, you fancied them to make it five against Cardiff.

I’m not saying one defeat puts them back to square one at home, it doesn’t.

The belief those four wins gave the players won’t be shattered by one 90 minutes where things didn’t go their way.

But another win in front of their own fans would have given their confidence another boost ahead of playing Bolton in their next home match, after Ipswich away this Saturday.

And it would also have kept them just a couple of points outside the top six, although they are still only five points adrift after losing to Cardiff, which is hardly a big gap.

When you think where they were last season, when things started to unravel under Philippe Montanier, eventually leading to Forest escaping relegation on goal difference - to see them up in ninth place and just those five points outside the prized top six places should not be sniffed at now.

I don’t think anyone at the club is looking nervously over their shoulder nowadays to see how much of a gap they have to the relegation places, I get the impression they are very much looking upwards.

They will see Warnock’s Cardiff are one of the clubs above them, but they shouldn’t waste any time thinking about them, they should just focus on their own progress this season.

Bitter Lemon leaves a taste in Kenny Burns mouth ;) :laughing6:

Forest were the worst team we have played this season

Attacking football my arse..they passed the ball between their back four and goalie countless times then as soon as someone put them under pressure they hoofed it aimlessly forward

David Vaughan their supposedly main playmaker spent most of the game playing behind his 2 centre halfs...garbage football from a pretty dire and clueless team..who had no leaders on the pitch to change the tactics that obviously weren't working

What a bitter man. Of course he would rather have a manager who has taken his team to mid table obscurity rather than have a manager who has taken his team to the automatic promotion places on a shoestring budget.
As far as entertainment is concerned, I'd rather watch Ken Dodd telling jokes than Burns playing football. Ken Dodd is better looking than him as well. Don't hear this sort of rubbish from the three teams who have beaten us, only those who can't beat us. If we are that bad, what does that say about their sides.

Shame is memory of the game doesn't stretch to the definate red card for forest? Selective memory at its best.

Its obvious Forest want to play it by keeping the ball and waiting for the opening. Thing is they might get away with it against Burton, QPR and the other not so good team but unless you have a few Messi in your team it will not work against a hard outfit like us.

Forest will need to find a few wonders to play and win like that because they are not going to achieve it with what they have when they come up with a half decent team.

I don't recall Kenny Burns complaining about negative tactics when, as a member of the Forest 1980 European Cup winning team, he was part of one of the great bus parking tactical performances I can remember in a major European Cup Final.

That night Brian Clough and his team introduced the world to a 9-1 tactical set up combined with every cynical trick in the book to keep Hamburg at bay. Still they needed a fantastic performance from Peter Shilton who made one save after another to win the game for Forest thanks to a goal from John Robertson.

Very selective memory from Kenny Burns.

Kenny is bitter because he's just found out that he's pregnant at 64 and has a spare 2 chins. Or is it Rene from 'Allo 'Allo?

Spot on, Gary! :thumbright:

Those of us who saw it, will recall the 'stick' that side took and Mr Burns was one of its chief protagonists! ;)

Very unpleasant comments. Will only serve to fire up and unite team with a seige mentality. Warnock is the Mourihno of the Championship.

Letting the opposition have the ball and pass it around in front of the Forest team which would only press when the opposition got into the final 1/3, then winning the ball back and getting it forward quickly with pace and power was typical of BC teams.

Much the same as a NW team.

Here's another one of Kenny in his younger years, doesn't have moobs yet but had a face that looks like a reflection in the back of a tablespoon.

At end of the day they were not playing great football just boring sideways moving football with only 2 efforts on goal at home!!! :laughing6: while we had two on target 2 goals! Conceding nil so More efficient upfront and better defensively So in my book that makes us the better team.

What's the score you stupid old winker :laughing6:

He is pathetic I'm sure there must be other players who played for Forest who wouldn't sound such a bad loser as Burns. Warnock is what he is I always liked him even before he came to City as he knows the game and talks straight and some people don't like it.

Anyway watching Cardiff city play so well and are better than us supporters and the experts thought they would ever do so far , has me all Tickled that is the only Ken Dodd thing with City at the moment
