Police and clubs issue this advice for supporters attending Aston Villa vs Millwall at Villa Park

Birmingham Mail

Wednesday 6th December 2017

The Championship fixtures takes place at Villa Park on Saturday, December 9

Fans parking at the North Stand will be able to do so via Witton Lane until 13.15pm but after this time should use the Witton Road entrance.

Supporters who usually park at Yew Tree School are asked to park on the Coach Park on Witton Lane before 13.15pm.

Aston Villa fans will have access to Villa Park changed for this weekend’s visit from Millwall.

Villa have announced on their website there will be an increased police presence at this weekend’s fixture against Millwall and several crowd control measures.

Those include road blockages and parking restrictions, which will be signed around the ground on match day.

Pre game:

Access to the Holte End, Trinity Road and Doug Ellis Stand will be via the St Peter and St Paul Church end of Witton Lane.

All North Stand supporters will need to enter via Trinity Road or Witton Lane.

There will be road blocks on Witton Lane from 13.15pm.

Post game:

Home fans in the Holte End, Trinity and Doug Ellis are asked to exit either via Trinity Road or Witton Lane towards the Aston Expressway flyover.

All North Stand supporters will need to exit via the Villa Village car park on Trinity Road or the rear entrance on Witton Road.

All drivers will be held until all supporters have left.

Stephen about 25-30 yrs ago I went to Villa v Millwall, Millwall in old Div1, Millwall took 8,000 fans there, they absolute ran riot and chased Villa everywhere after the game, even the Police had to retreat.

Yes I can see some trouble again.

Seems to be a bit of an over reaction I am sure they have coped with local derby games against Brum City so I can't see why this one would be any more of a problem? How many Millwall are they expecting to turn up? :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

It was mad that day, Millwall were beyond massive in numbers.

Not good for them, they will be prob not as big as they were v Millwall as they don't have the numbers anyway like Millwall.

It is exactly what they do for the derby. Basically, they erect a steel wall across the road. Millwall will be marched to and from the coaches and trains through streets that no Villa fans can access. Most Millwall fans won't see a Villa fan outside the ground all day and vice versa.

Your prob 100% bang on, but years ago it was a Free for all outside Villa Park.

Millwall will be drinking all over.

There won't be any Millwall near the ground as there are no pubs for them to go in. That leaves town and they'll then get the trains and be wrapped up.

VP has always been one of the easiest grounds to police outside as there's no side streets and the coach park and station are within spitting distance.

we were arguing with some bloke at the end of the street saying its a Villa pub. loads of tents next to an off licence. we just got cans and stood outside - Last season, trouble then too!

The pub is the designated away fans pub, with a big marque out the back. I believe that it is half and half and Villa fans use the other room. That's the only place that allows away fans.

I was at the game last season and saw no trouble. I sit on the same side as you and outside, there was OB lined all the way up the road - Can't see there being anything major. The road has loads of cameras as well.

That must have been the one. we were arguing with one of the bouncers outside as he said Villa only. Then my mate almost got nicked for pissing on the road bridge just up the road - same copper had him at Burton a couple of weeks before :D

You do realise that the police don't even allow coaches into Cardiff until just before kick off?

Every coach has to go to a service station on the outskirts at 2pm for an escort in.

That is equally as bad and interferes with peoples pre-match drink.

Seen about 50 bham fans a couple of years ago drinking in Caerphilly which is roughly 10 miles from CCS.
It was the most bizarre thing i'd ever seen getting on the same train as them.

Exactly the same this season quite a few Villa in the John Fielding in Cwmbran, no problems at all and City fans in there waiting to get to the station.

off topic a bit but out of interest do a lot of Villa travel by coach.?
our fans do but its quite rare to see more than 10 coaches leave our car park and ive noticed a lack of coaches while visiting other grounds for games that do not involve ourselves.

Yes, a lot of Villa travel by coach. Like yourselves, there seem to be about 5 or 6 different people organising trips as well as the official supporters club.

My feeling (and it's probably the same with yourselves) is that coach is usually a lot cheaper than trains, unless you can find a good deal. A coach to yours earlier in the season was £25 whereas I couldn't find a train for under £60. QPR the other week was a bit different as there are usually cheap deals to London (our coach was £25, the train was £28). Derby next week will see lots travelling by train because it's affordable. Middlesbrough over Xmas will see almost everyone travelling by coach.

looking forward to villa away this year again hopefully we will still be in the top 6 by then . wouldn't it be nice they gave us 4,000 tickets like we did with them this season

as for around the ground your better off going for a beer and food on the outskirts of birmingham like minworth / sutton coldfield off junction 9 off the M42 parking up near a local railway station catch the train and out after the game if your going independantly . much better than anywhere near the ground or the centre of birmingham .

A punch up that terrifies all those that attend football to watch football and not have a scrap. Not forgetting innocent bystanders who can get dragged in.

I’m very much of the opinion they should set aside areas for firms to have a scrap. Let them do it away from people who don’t want anything to do with it.

Went to that pub with the marquee before the game at Villa last season and the bouncer on the gate was charging £2 just to get into the marquee! :o

Not sure if he was meant to be charging but he certainly seemed to be doing quite well out of it.

VP is an expensive enough place to go without being charged to go into a grubby marquee.

I was at the game last season and saw no trouble. I sit on the same side as you and outside, there was OB lined all the way up the road - Can't see there being anything major. The road has loads of cameras as well.

I have a different view.

Firstly, as Mozzer has alluded to, anyone who goes to the designated away pub, anywhere in the country should know not to expect a top notch day out.

Secondly, pubs in Aston & Witton are dropping like flies. Only a handful of the 20 or so that were in operation 20 or 30 years ago are still open for trade. Would anyone begrudge the landlord of the Witton Arms charging £2 a head in an attempt to stay afloat? You don't think he's making a killing from the pub do you? Without matchday, the pub would not be able to exist. All pubs charge £1 or £2 on matchdays, even the ones that Villa fans use.

As for Villa being expensive, how is that? It's £30 for away fans, a similar price for like for lie tickets at Cardiff.
