NEIL WARNOCK ON WOLVES: NO CITY INFERIORITY COMPLEX

Neil Warnock warns Wolves that Cardiff City don't have an 'inferiority complex' and will refuse to settle for the top six
By Dominic Booth

Cardiff City boss Warnock has laid down a serious marker to Wolves in the Championship title race

Neil Warnock is adamant Cardiff City can maintain a challenge for the Championship title but is content to let pundits over-hype early pace-setters Wolves.

Warnock's Cardiff team have defied expectations to sit second in the table, three points clear of third-placed Bristol City with a game in hand and 11 ahead of seventh-place going into this weekend's fixtures.

The Bluebirds must wait until Monday for their next game, against Reading — while rivals Wolves host struggling Sunderland on Saturday — with Warnock happy for the division's 'big hitters' to soak up all the talk of promotion.

The forecasters braced Cardiff for a season of mid-table mediocrity, yet they show no signs of falling away from the promotion picture after 20 games.

And Warnock's side are looking to stretch their winning streak to five matches at the Madejski on Monday night.

"The talk is bound to be about teams like Wolves, Villa, Derby and Middlesbrough," said Warnock. "They’re the really big hitters in the division so people talk about them I suppose because more newspapers are sold in those areas.

"We’re just quietly happy going along as we are, we weren't supposed to be up there, so let's treat it like a bonus and let's enjoy it."

Warnock cited his long list of injuries as the key reason why Cardiff could improve and overtake Wolves.

After stringing together five successive wins at the start of the season, inspired by star striker Kenneth Zohore, Cardiff have again clicked into gear.

But, as the veteran boss, explained, there could be even more to come.

"If we get a little bit of luck with injuries, we can improve in the New Year for the run-in," Warnock added.

"We've a lot more to come from two or three.

"Zohore hasn't got going but he looks bright again in training. I spoke to him at great length and told him how important he's going to be.

"Kadeem Harris trained — touch wood — for the first time and looked sharp. He's a matchwinner.

"So although we've coped with injuries, like with Jazz Richards as well, we just have to hang in there.

"I can’t fault the lads, we’ve done well and all the results have been what we’ve deserved."

And after many Cardiff fans had tentatively hoped for a play-off push at the start of the season, Warnock insisted the Bluebirds can keep the pressure on Wolves and sneak under the radar for a shot at the top.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men are four points clear having won their last six on the spin.

"We still look at catching Wolves," claimed Warnock.

"Yes they’ve had some good runs, they've got more money than anybody, but you have to invest it wisely. They’ve done that and they're the team to finish above if you're going to get promotion.

"We haven’t got an inferiority complex. We beat Wolves at Wolves and we deserved to do that. I just wish there were a few more teams like us who could beat them!

"Everybody loses points, it's luck of the draw at times. But every game is winnable and every game you can lose, that's the beauty of the Championship.

"If we can hang in there until we get players back, we want to make sure we're in them play-offs. Normally I would say we're seven points from safety (on 43 points) at most clubs I take over.

"But I'm not trying to play it down, I just know how quickly things change. We've got a group of lads who are enjoying it, who have done remarkably well and we're going to try and stay there as long as we can."

As most media don't appear to like Cardiff, all the pressure will be on Wolves, Villa and now even the Wurzels. Listened to the Blades match on TalkSport and the clowns commented on Brizzle being the dark horses of the Championship.

I heard that and it baffled me too.

How can you get anymore of a dark horse than us? 13th was the highest prediction I saw for us from the ‘experts’.

Up until the sending off, they commented that the Wurzels were 'hanging on in there'. Then they get one in the 90th after playing against 10 men and then suddenly become the dark horses. Not even a mention of Cardiff's progress from most of the MSM sports journo's which is pathetic but keeps us off the radar I suppose.
