Stoke on Stoke action, did not involve any Burton fans...

Eleven men involved in a pub punch-up have been banned from attending Stoke City matches for the rest of the season.

Bar stools, pool cues and balls were used as weapons during the violent disorder inside The Locomotive pub, in Burton, on the day that Stoke City were in town for a pre-season friendly against Burton Albion

Prosecutor Hunter Gray said: “Stoke City fans began brawling with each other. There appears to have been two distinct groups involved in the disorder which initiated with Noel Edwards punching Phillip Divers in the toilets.

Ten men had already pleaded guilty to violent disorder with an 11th being found guilty in November following a re-trial. One man from Stoke-on-Trent stood trial in July and was found not guilty.

THIS is the shocking moment raging football fans beat each other with pool cues when a mass brawl broke out after a FRIENDLY match in the Midlands.

The violence erupted shortly after a pre-season friendly between Burton Albion and Stoke City and saw thousands of pounds worth of damage inflicted on the Locomotive pub.

The shocking scenes of violence begin as two groups of men appear to exchange words.

One group then march over to another – pool cues still in hand from a game – and they begin fighting in the centre of the pub.

Several punches are thrown, one man is knocked to the floor and a woman can be scene fleeing the pub during the brawl.

As the fight continues, bar stools are hurled through the air and the punch-up continues in the doorway of the pub.

A bald man in a white shirt can be seen with blood on his torso shortly before the men start to violently attack customers at the Locomotive Pub, on Station Street.

Four men then gang up on one football fan and are shown kicking him after he is thrown to the floor. One punter then smashes him with a bar stool.

The video ends as a man in a black jacket appears to calm the situation.

Eleven men have now been sentenced to a combination of suspended sentences, curfews and unpaid work for their part in the huge brawl – which took place in the afternoon of Saturday, July 16.

Ten men had already pleaded guilty to violent disorder with an 11th being found guilty in November following a re-trial. One man from Stoke-on-Trent stood trial in July and was found not guilty.

PC Rob Morgan said: “I hope this sends out a clear message – such violence will not be tolerated in our communities.

“These 11 men knew what they were doing and what they were getting involved in. Their sentences are to be welcomed.

“To other people in the pub that afternoon, or the immediate area, this would have been a frightening experience and one they should not have been subjected too.

“We will continue to take positive action against those involved in such violent behaviour.”

It says it's football related but I'm struggling to see any evidence e other than there was a friendly game on that day?

Surprised the big brave pool ball thrower wasn't sent down though.

I can't find football related either?

And Cardiff fans get much harsher sentences for hardly doing anything compared to this ?

Stoke on Stoke action, did not involve any Burton fans... maybe they were debating team selection in the toilets when it started. Looks a crap pub.

Eleven men involved in a pub punch-up have been banned from attending Stoke City matches for the rest of the season.

Bar stools, pool cues and balls were used as weapons during the violent disorder inside The Locomotive pub, in Burton, on the day that Stoke City were in town for a pre-season friendly against Burton Albion. The violence did not involve Burton fans or any other rival supporters.

The trouble started when dad-of-two Noel Edwards struck Phillip Divers with a ‘cowardly’ punch as he left the toilets. Divers was knocked to the floor and his friends went to his aid.

Now all 11 defendants have been handed suspended jail sentences at Stafford Crown Court.

The violence erupted at 4.45pm on July 16, 2016.

Prosecutor Hunter Gray said: “Stoke City fans began brawling with each other. There appears to have been two distinct groups involved in the disorder which initiated with Noel Edwards punching Phillip Divers in the toilets.

“Stools, pool cues and pool balls were used during the incident, thrown or used as weapons, and damage was caused to the pub.”

Ten defendants pleaded guilty to violent disorder. They were: Noel Edwards, aged 44, of Ash Tree Rise, Stone; Phillip Divers, aged 47, of Broomfield Close, Stone; John Eenkhoorn, aged 48, of Priorfield Close, Longton; Joseph Fagan, aged 57, of Druberry Lane, Blurton; Sam Brammer, aged 29, of Gower Road, Stone; Andrew Campbell, aged 40, of Woodshutts Street, Talke; Shaun Flannaghan, aged 42, of Gower Road, Stone; Nicholas Moorhouse, aged 32, of Stone Road, Trent Vale; Jason Wood, aged 47, of Dominic Street, Penkhull; and Leon Yewdell, aged 33, of Smithpool Road, Fenton.

Paramedic Michael Whittingham, aged 49, of Alfred Street, Fenton, denied the offence but was found guilty after a trial.
Barry White, mitigating for Brammer, conceded his client used a pool cue but said the dad is disgusted and embarrassed with his behaviour. He described it as a ‘few minutes of madness’.

Chris Clark, for Flannaghan, said it was a ‘moment of misjudgement’. He added: “He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He saw his relatives and friends being attacked and he instinctively reacted.”

David Farley, representing Campbell, said his client did not go to the match. He joined in the fight when he saw Divers on the floor. He used a chair as a weapon and aimed a kick at someone.

Mr Farley, also defending roofer Moorhouse, said his client went too far and kicked a toilet door. He added: “It was out of character and he is ashamed. He lost control of his temper.”

Phillip Beardwell, defending Whittingham, said the paramedic is very highly regarded by the ambulance service.

He said: “It was a spontaneous incident of violence. He has a high degree of shame and personal embarrassment about becoming involved in this.”

Andrew Bennett, for Wood, said his client showed poor judgement when he threw a broken pool cue.

Saul Brody, representing Yewdell, said he was not an instigator and did not punch, kick or use a weapon. He said: “It was an aggressive push with an open hand towards Edwards. He threw a bar stool towards the rear doors. It bounced off a fixture and may have caused a limited amount of damage.”

Anis Ali, for Fagan, said his client was genuinely embarrassed. He said: “He wanted to ensure the safety and wellbeing of his friend, Divers. He was attacked with a weapon and needed hospital treatment.”

Mr Ali, also representing Divers, said his client was the victim of an unprovoked assault which rendered him unconscious. When he came round he acted in a ‘disproportionate manner’.

The court heard Edwards has been a Stoke City season ticket holder for 10 years.

His barrister Peter Hemming said: “He is extremely remorseful and embarrassed. He was told in no uncertain terms to get out of the way in the toilets. He foolishly struck across the group. He then left. His one part was to throw a punch in a stupid act.”

Claire Evans, defending Eenkhoorn, said the family man acted on the spur of the moment. She said: “He was hit on the head with a pool cue and he was seen throwing items towards the other group. He lost perspective. He was not thinking. He got caught up in the event.”

Judge John Wait sentenced Edwards, Divers, Campbell, Eenkhoorn, Brammer and Whittingham to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, with a five-month curfew from 7.30pm to 6am and 250-hours unpaid work.

Wood, Flannaghan, Fagan, and Moorhouse were sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, with 200-hours unpaid work and a four-month curfew from 7.30pm to 6am. Yewdell’s sentence was the same except his curfew was for six months on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7pm to 4.30am.

All defendants who pleaded guilty were ordered to pay £535 costs. Whittingham must pay £1,200. All 11 defendants must pay £120 compensation for the damage to the pub and distress caused to two members of staff.

Judge Wait said it was an ‘ugly episode of violence’. He said he could not sentence the defendants to football banning orders but could make prohibited activity requirements banning them from attending any Stoke City match until May 31.

He said: “This offence involved for the most part men who were following football. They were much older than most of those who, unable to control their tempers, lash out and involve themselves in violence.

“These defendants are capable of showing maturity, responsibility and restraint, though they did not on that day."

The majority of them are in their 40s. Just plane stupid what they did. Football is an emotion for true supports. Your team winning or losing can make or break your weekend. If you cannot control your passion then you should not be part of it.

It begs the question if its a fight between stoke fans isn't it not football related so how can they dish out football banning orders? Looks like a dispute that's got out of hand.
