“ BOLTON IN TALKS “

Postby Forever Blue » Mon Jan 08, 2018 11:23 am

Bolton Wanderes have approached Cardiff City regarding Anthony Pilkington on a free transfer.

The only stumbling block is Pilks £20,000 plus a week wages. It believed Bolton are prepared to pay half of them and for Cardiff City to pay Pilks off? ?

Pliks is languishing in Cardiff City's DVP team mostly this season.

Don't really see the point in that for us at all? Paying to get rid of a player who isn't that bad.

It knocks £10,000pw off the wage bill between now and the end of the season. AP isn't in NW's plans and the saving can be used else where.

That's not their fault though is it? We were the one's who gave AP a £20kpw contract and now decide he is not worth the wad.

I still think it makes sense to pay off AP half of what we contractually owe him between now and the end of the season and use the saving to fund a loan or permanent player.

Totally agree Tony, its our fault, we over paid in the first place and Bolton don't have any money.

Half his wages seems a little much, surely we could get a better deal later in the month.

He has to go though.

Fair play to him mind, you can’t fault his effort for us, even when it was made clear that he has no future here.

i do wonder why some players fall by the wayside. le fondre, noone and now pilkington have all gone from being decent players (to varying degrees) in the premier league, to languishing in reserves of a team that's battling relegation.

pilkington is the last of the overpaid brigade and hopefully we can get a team to pay a bit more of his wages.

i think Pilkingtons contract runs until June 2019...assuming the figures being quoted are correct Bolton not wanting to pay more than 10k per week and ourselves currently paying him 20k per week it leaves something like a 700k shortfall over the length of his contract.
if we want rid its going to cost us another lump of money.
seems the same every window with a big chunk of the budget going to pay up contracts of unwanted players.. :banghead:

When you say Bolton would pay Pilks £10,000 a week, then City would pay him off; how much do you think we would have to pay Pilks?

his contract has 18 months left. 70 weeks at 10k...is 700k...as i said im going off the figures on here ..
every negotiation is different..he could be awkward and say he is happy to stick around for his monthly check..or he could be desperate to have a fresh start and be prepared to take a hit like Emyr Huws..
im sure most of us would not be prepared to take a 700k hit though...???????????

3 years at 10k is exactly the same amount as 18months at 20k..so he would be losing 18 months off his career for zero money..
yes he would probably have add ons, but he no doubt has them here and like as happened here there is no guarantee a year down the line he will be getting picked..possibly by a new manager who just like NW dont rate him...
