Cardiff City are set to battle it out with SPL giants Rangers for the signature of Hamilton youngster Greg Docherty.

The 21-yea-old has impressed in the 25 appearances he’s made already for Hamilton this season and he has attracted interest from bigger clubs as a result.

A number of reports claim Neil Warnock and Cardiff City are one of the teams interested but they are not alone.

Rangers are also said to be interested and they may have the edge with Docherty being a Scottish youth international.

Cardiff City are looking to boost their midfield following four straight defeats and a number of injuries.

However, it’s unlikely they will splash out on youngster Docherty, concentrating their funds on an a more experienced midfielder to replace the injured Aron Gunnarsson.

Having said that, the Bluebirds will be able to offer a shot at Premier League football this season, being placed third currently, and could offer a better contract than their Scottish counterparts.

Both teams are said to be tracking Docherty at this stage with neither team making an offer just yet.

Hamilton will be desperate to keep hold of Docherty, currently sitting ninth place in the SPL, just five points above bottom.

Weird , but a Scottish players ambition is to play for rangers or celtic not down south , we saw it with Aberdeen winger joining Celtic , look what happened there ?

Not sure how he`d fit in the Championship and not sure why we are not just bidding if we want a player - why wait ?

Irrespective of nationality players go where the most money is.

Agree,
We've had loads of Scottish players down the city.

He should never have said that knowing how much of a rip off players are in Jan. I think he's set us up for a fall.

Not sure that is correct really. If that's the case why did Paterson join us when he was a free agent. No doubt Rangers or Celtic would have been interested. Hayes is Irish BTW not Scottish!

I think a lot of the attraction of Celtic is champions league football as well but lots of Scottish players move down south to try their hand in the championship or premiership rather than go to Rangers/Celtic.
