CHRIS COLEMAN:”I CANT GET MY HEAD AROUND IT”

CHRIS COLEMAN:

'I can't get my head round it'

It’s a long journey home for the fans and I can’t get my head around it, I really can’t.
We’re playing catch-up. We lacked confidence and ideas up front because we’re young and inexperienced. That’s where we need to strengthen. It’s not a case of hoping for transfers, we’ve got to do it.
Chris Coleman

Coleman not happy... but no huge complaints about red card

CHRIS COLEMAN:

“Painful. 45 seconds to go 1-0 down after the restart, I can’t accept that. You can’t do that, not where we are.
The sending off? Sometimes they’re given, sometimes they’re not. It can go two ways, the referee has got a decision to make.
For 45 minutes we were okay, comfortable really. To give them a goal like that, you can’t do that. It was soft, as simple as that,”

I thought a yellow card.

No intentions to hurt and was going for the ball.

I think it was red, he wasn't in control, it could have been a lot worse on Hoilett.

Never a red, their player cleanly took the ball and then his foot rolled off the ball and caught Hoilett in the follow through. It wasn't even a challenge from the back or side, the challenge was straight on and their player clearly took the ball first before making any contact with Hoilett. I wouldn't have even given a foul.

Apart from the Bamba "offside" goal against Hull (where only his arm was CLEARLY offside so I still think it was a good goal, although it was very tight), that's only the second wrong game changing decision that's gone in our favour this season. We still have another 8-10 wrong game changing decisions to go in our favour before those who say decisions "even themselves out" will be proven correct this season.

I thought the officials got a lot of decisions wrong today for both teams and I hope Sunderland's sending off gets rescinded.

Having just seen the tackle on tv, I think it was only a yellow as the guy took the ball first, but the referee has to make a decision there and then, at least he didn’t bottle it.

Asoro should have started - he looked a different class of player that they didn’t have on the pitch til he came on never lost the ball once.

No it was not, have a look at the video, if Holliets foot was planted hard on the ground the tackle would have broken his leg as holliets foot was just coming down to the ground you could see his leg bend

Have a look

And that's the important point, Luke! :thumbright:

Thought the referee did well overall today, as those who saw Lee Probert's performance last week will confirm ;)

Well it goes without saying I'm glad we smacked Sunderland today. But I also hope Coleman does OK at Sunderland and keeps them up. I think he will IF they give time, but its a big IF. :bluebird:

When I played football you did not try and get control of the ball with you studs facing your opponents leg. Yes he played the ball first, but what happened after he touched the ball was inevitable. It was a risky tackle to make, and it was just a matter of whether or not the ref deemed it a yellow or red card. As has been pointed out, it was down to more luck than judgement that there was no nasty injury following the tackle.

Wasn’t a red card.

It was our players that got him sent off.

But we were in charge for all of the first half without scoring and already 1-0 up by the time of the red card. Think we would have won comfortably without the red card.

The rules for a red card tackle are not what they once were.

In today’s ruling a player has a responsibility for another’s health and safety, intentional or not his studs were showing and as a result could have potentially broke Hoiletts leg. So it’s a red, be surprised if they fight it.

Some refs would give it, others bottle it. Today was the right call however harsh it seems

I wish I had the blue tinted specs some of our fans had.

If that was given against us this place would be bouncing

Red for me.
In the modern game it doesn’t matter if you get a touch of the ball first.
Over the top, studs on the ankle area .... red.

What is interesting is that there are no real complaints about the sending off on the Sunderland forums, and no real criticism from Coleman either. I don't believe for one minute that they will appeal that decision, and I doubt if they will get anywhere even if they do. I think it was a risky tackle to make but seen worse go unpunished.

For me . RED all day long
Studs up over the ball. It was clumsy. If the it connected properly on planted foot then its boken leg time.
Nasty height for the challenge .
Red card . Right decision

Thought the ref has a good game today, one of the better Championship refs imo. Especially when we’ve had Probert & Stephen Martin recently.

Can see both arguments of the decision, their player was a bit unlucky but was reckless and there were no real complaints from them. Remember he only saw it once, we’ve all seen it many times and in slow motion

Real time looked harsh but in slow mo action replay definite red could have done Hoilett some serious damage.

Yellow or red could been either his foot clearly lands on ball and rolls onto his leg! Not due appealing will be of any use though, as for Sunderland take look at last 5 managers not exactly novices and all failed the whole club is failing!

At certain times yesterday the ref was awful - books our defender for a block but same offence by Sunderland player in exactly same part of the pitch - just a free kick.

One 10 minute period he was getting dog's abuse in 114
