Makes me sad that Cardiff are not there, I always loved Ninian Park I feel that the new stadium has no atmosphere and that is because we moved stadium, I know that it will never happen BUT I just wish that someday we might go back. I loved that place, don't get me wrong I like the stadium we have today but it is never the same as the good old days. :ayatollah:

The floodlights are there, weren’t they erected c.62 - steam in the background at Canton sheds, so maybe pre-1968?

Couple of questions

When was the grandstand finished ?
Could you walk under the bob bank and grange end, was it ever wood ?
When did we lose the second level in the canton

I remember my first game was against PNE, probably late 70's ( i would have been 9/10), but i have recollections when younger of walking under a big stand. Could only have been NP

Sounds like you walked under the grange end to get to the bob bank.

Would seem to be the case as that fight was in June 1967. Winston lost by a disputed points decision

I am genuinely not having a go here, but where does this reference to Ninian Park being "The old lady" come from?

In 55 years of being a fan, I have never heard it called that by other fans until recently on this board

Absolutely spot on!
I go back a little further than you and it’s new to me too.
‘Old lady’, old girl, it’s nonsense.

NP was something special and other supporters knew it too. My first game would have been late 70's and I would have been 8 or 9. Hooked from the off.

The pics of my favourite spot ever (Bob) show how it was (before my time :old: ), and like the pitch, originally built from the slag produced from industry up and down Penarth Road. I read in the excellent Fred Keenor book that players often gashed themselves on glass shards that would pop up in the pitch.

I like the fact it was literally built from the ashes of the surrounding industrial area. A very special place indeed and I've noticed that the youngsters who know their football all seem to like the original stadiums. Long may they survive.
