Neil Warnock secures Serb Marko Grujic for rest of season after agreeing deal where he has to play or Bluebirds face large cash penalty


The Serbian international is struggling for match action under Jurgen Klopp and is being allowed to leave in order to get it.

He has made just six appearances this campaign, with his only start coming in the Carabao Cup against Leicester.

Both Boro boss Tony Pulis and Bluebirds chief Neil Warnock have spoken to the starlet, but it is the Welsh outfit who have secured his services.

We understand that high-flying Cardiff agreed to a loan deal where the 21-year-old has to play or they will have to pay the Merseysiders a large cash penalty.

Klopp wanted assurances that Grujic would see regular action if sent out.

The Serbian international is desperate for more match action after having limited opportunity with the Reds

Pulis already has a stacked squad at The Riverside, which he is trying to reduce this month, and was unable to give those assurances

But Warnock has a place waiting for the former Red Star Belgrade ace in his side, and he hopes the youngster can help fire Cardiff to automatic promotion.

Since Grujic arrived in the summer of 2016 he has been restricted to just eight cameos from the subs bench in the Premier League.

He desperately feels that he needs to leave Anfield on loan to help further his development.

Now that is a gamble having to play him? Remember other loans having to do that and they were basically crap so stuck with inferior player on field! But have confidence in clops view of him and Nw judgement.

I can feel to 'mojo' coming back but there will be some pretty narked 'negativos' crying in their beer as the jig-saw pieces fall into place rather than disappearing down the side of the proverbial chair as predicted!

Interesting IF the 'must play' clause is in the contract (if it's fine with the manager, it's fine with me) but I guess that'll give the 'negativos' some leeway later!

Well he's not coming to get splinters in his arse. Theres a big difference between guaranteeing game time and guaranteeing 90mins every week.Like any other player fatigue causes injury and I guess Klopp will want him looked after in that regard.

I agree and that's why I say "IF", as I'm sure there will be limits on 'performance and fitness' in the early games and Neil Warnock can't and won't afford to carry passengers if the push is to continue!

Coincidentally, I signed him on loan for Cardiff on my FM18 game last week.

If he is as good in real life as he is rated on FM18, he will be a very good signing. Being dubbed "the new Matic" is very high praise indeed!

I think it means we've got a better chance of signing Grabban now, as originally a substantial fee was going on a midfielder.
Also, he isn't cup-tied, so available for the Man City game, which is great

Perhaps its the end for Gunnar.

Fantastic signing. On the official Liverpool Twitter account the fans seem genuinely gutted to see him go, a good few on there are saying he should be in the first team. Plenty saying he should replace Henderson. He’s the future of Liverpool another said.
