Neil Warnock's cheeky message to a Cardiff City fan queuing for Man City tickets as Bluebirds begin preparations for glamour FA Cup tie

The Bluebirds boss has already turned his attention to his side's glamour tie with Pep Guardiola's side

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock says he's pleased by the level of excitement shown towards his side's FA Cup fourth round tie with Manchester City, but insists his injury list has left him facing a selection headache.

Fans continued to queue up at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday in a bid to try and get their hands on tickets for the visit of the Premier League champions-elect, and Warnock couldn't resist paying the supporters a visit ahead of his side's trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

As usual, he was his cheeky self, although the sight of so many people showing such eagerness to come and watch the team means the magnitude of the fixture has clearly hit home.

After watching his side play out a disappointing 0-0 draw at Hillsborough, Warnock said: "I had a chat with some fans in the queue on Friday and I asked them why they hadn’t been there all season.

"But they told me they were season ticket holders! It’s good to see the excitement and that’s why we can’t go and stifle, we have to go and think to hell with it – as long as we don’t get battered."

Despite coming out of the match in South Yorkshire full of frustration, there were a few positives for City, particularly the debuts of new boys Yanic Wildschut and Marko Grujic, as well as the return of long-term absentee Kadeem Harris.

However, Warnock is still having to contend with injuries to several key players, with the likes of Aron Gunnarsson, Danny Ward and Lee Peltier the most notably absentees.

And the Yorkshireman admits that the strain of facing Manchester City, who cruised to a 3-1 win over Newcastle United at the Etihad at the same time as Cardiff's laboured performance at Hillsborough, could push his squad to the limit.

"I can’t look forward to it [playing Man City]," Warnock quipped.

"I wanted to beat Mansfield but I didn’t want to play Man City. We’ll have to find whoever’s fit to run around for an hour and a half and try and keep the score down. We’ll have a go and enjoy it. It’ll be a full-house."

The concerns over his squad are nevertheless likely to have been eased slightly by the arrivals of Wildschut and Grujic, both of whom produced solid debut displays, while the progress of Jazz Richards continues to be a source of encouragement.

"Yanic showed in the first-half what he’s good at and run out of steam. Marko had a decent hour and did the same. But when you’ve not played in the Championship, it’s so difficult.

"But it’ll come, they’re good lads and they’ll learn from it."

Wildschut's arrival and the return of Harris arguably increases Warnock's options out wide, particularly with the likes of Junior Hoilett, Callum Paterson and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing all vying for places.

The latter started Saturday's game from the bench, but is clearly a key part of Warnock's plans, although he's keen for his side to show more in the final third after a frustrating result.

He said: "Mendez looked sharp when he came on, and he should be back in the thick of it after a rest.

"Wednesday had good chances, but you would have thought we were the home side the way they looked to get us on the counter attack. I can see a lot more 0-0 draws here and away."

The games certainly don't get any easier for Warnock's men following Pep's visit to the Cardiff City Stadium, with City returning to league action at the beginning of February with a trip to Leeds United, before another tricky visit to Millwall the following Friday.

Clashing with the likes of De Bruyne and Aguero has clearly caught the imagination of the fans, but the next few weeks could prove pivotal if Cardiff are to come up against them again in the Premier League next season.

Obviously only a bit of banter but you'd think he'd realise they would all be season ticket holders
