" NEIL WARNOCK UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS TODAY "

Thursday 8th February 2018

Warnock on Zohore and Madine's arrival

NEIL WARNOCK:

"We lost major players for quite a long time in Morrison, Zohore, Gunnarsson and I think we needed an influx of new bodies, even for banter in the dressing room, and we couldn’t rely on poor old Zohore on his own up front for so long so I was pleased to get Madine. He was my number one choice but I didn’t think we would get him."

"When we got Marko on loan from Liverpool it released the funds because I was going to spend £3m on Forshaw so I spent it on one player. They could play together against certain teams against certain systems, it’s a possibility, and we will look at it at some stage."

Neil Warnock: "I reckon Bruno Manga could get into three quarter of the Premier League teams."

Neil Warnock:
Marko Grujic was not trying hard enough during his initial Cardiff City training sessions

Warnock on injury news (and illness)

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I’ve been in bed the last two days ill. We’ve had a few coughing and spluttering but nothing untoward. Bennett is back from suspension."

"The other lads are doing well and could be back in contention next week. We’re crossing our fingers; Bryson’s had two comebacks and not been right so let’s hope with Connolly and Peltier. Gunnarsson is on the zero gravity and could be on the grass next week at some stage, but he’ll need two or three weeks before he’s anywhere near."

" SEE ALL NEIL WARLOCKS UPDATES BELOW ' :thumbright: :bluebird: :ayatollah:

Mendez-Laing's absence v Leeds?

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Last week I didn’t have Mendez on the bench which is wow, when we are where we are because of him. I’ve told the players, there’ll be times when they won’t be involved in the squad, but they’re all in involved in this challenge if we are to get into the play-offs."

"I can’t be having any favourites. I have to pick the players I think will be the right for the game. I told Mendez why I was leaving him out and there’ll be others this week."

'The most physical side'?

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I think (Neil Harris) might have said it tongue in cheek because he said to Blacky (Kevin Blackwell) that they’re as physical as us and will give us a good game. We’re genuine, go into the tackles and play some good football as well."

"We don’t have to worry about my reputation, they play their game, they know what I want, I want to entertain, tackles, headers, shots, oohs and ahhs."

Joe Bennett 'flying' again

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Bennett’s apologised and said it wouldn’t happen again and he’s flying now. It’s not him. He thought he was taking one for the team, but he’s learned from it and apologised from me and the team."

"I don’t think it’s playing on his mind - he knows if it does he won’t be playing. He made a mistake, held his hand up and got on with it. There’s been a lot worse tackles this year. Berardi’s was worse last week, it was intentional. I don’t condone them but they can look worse in slow-mo."

Neil Warnock on the promotion race:

"Wolves have got the points on board so it’s difficult to see how they will slip up, but look at the resources of Villa, Derby - even Fulham, they should be leap years away."

"There’s two places up for grabs in the playoffs, we have to make sure we’re one. We’re not going to say we’re not going for it, but we have to be philosophical when you look at their squads and the changes they can make. I think it will be them three but you don’t know this week."

Warnock on 'underrated' Hoilett

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Junior’s been great for me. He was training for Under 18s when I walked into QPR for punishment. I told him he would play on the Saturday and he was man of the match. He’s a first name on the team-sheet."

"They’re good Championship players, underrated I think Junior. He’s matured and developed far better player than been. It’s his best season."

'New players have provided a boost'

NEIL WARNOCK:

"It’s not just Zohore, says Warnock, who is feeling the benefit of the new arrivals and competition for places"

"Psychologically, when you know you’re the only striker as he was when Danny Ward got injured it’s difficult to maintain the levels you set, I think you’ll see a different Ken now when he comes back in. I think he needed the help. I think players have appreciated the new competition from Gary, Wardy and Traore."

Neil Harris: 'Cardiff the most physical team'

Millwall boss Neil Harris has spoken about Cardiff’s physicality and direct tactics...

"Cardiff are by far the most physical team in the division. They are an aggressive side."

NEIL HARRIS:

"It is a big game because it is two teams who have been in really good form. Cardiff are flying high at the top of the league and pushing for promotion – they have spent over £6million on a striker in the transfer window and that shows where their mindset is.
There is always a special atmosphere when Millwall play Cardiff. Cardiff are by far the most physical team in the division and we have to be ready for the battle."

"They are a front-foot, aggressive side. They get the ball forward and play to their strengths – long throws, corners and free-kicks."

"Everything goes into the box. We have to stand strong and try to impose our game on them."

"We had a very good draw at Cardiff earlier in the season. We felt we were unlucky not to get a couple of refereeing decisions go our way."

MILLWALL V CARDIFF CITY :bluebird:

Similarities between Cardiff and Millwall?

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Neil Harris has done a fabulous job, right from day one I sent him my best wishes when he got the job and he’s matured as he’s gone on. It’s my kind of place to go, both teams are similar in the way they play, both sides will roll their sleeves up and give everything. Neither of us are Derby, Villa, Wolves - we haven’t got the money to do that. But we both appreciate what we’ve been doing."

Zohore transfer interest and his confidence

NEIL WARNOCK:

"We had £10-£12m interest but I feel a bit sorry for (Zohore), because as a team we didn’t play so well, didn’t create enough chances, we never gave him the opportunities, they were few and far between, so rather than be relaxed when he got those opportunities he snatched at one or two, but there’s signs of him coming back into it, and as daft as it sounds Madine coming in will help him."

"He can have a breather, have a look at the situation and I think it’ll be easier for him now. One thing I’m sure of, if we are to get into the play-offs we’ll need Ken Zohore between now and the end of the season."

NEIL WARNOCK:

"If you said Jamie Ward and Traore are powerful players I’ll take it as a compliment because neither are. I think we have quite a lot of skill. I think if the Manchester City tackle hadn’t happened there will be nothing. It’s only because the Newcastle-Chelsea game was a damp squib there was nothing else to write about."

"Martin Samuel and Neil Ashton will have a go few times a year but that’s fine. I gave Joe Bennett more stick, you make a tackle like that and I get three days of hell."

Neil Warnock this week... no such worries when you’re ill, says the Yorkshireman!

NEIL WARNOCK:

I’ve not been training last few days so I haven’t had to worry about it. I felt sorry for myself. When you’re ill you think to hell with football! I couldn’t wait to see you guys this morning.

The players who are surprising Warnock

Warnock can’t believe some of his players aren’t already playing in the Premier League...

NEIL WARNOCK:

My biggest surprise in pre-season was no-one came in for Manga on a free. I reckon he could get in three quarter of Premier League teams. I was delighted and he’s been a credit. Morrison has kept surprising people, there’s more to his game that just being a big lump.

Warnock sympathy for Stuart McCall

We reported yesterday that Craig Bellamy was being touted for the Bradford City job, vacated by Stuart McCall.

Warnock has sympathy for the former Bantams boss...

NEIL WARNOCK:

"We’ve all been cast aside by Premier League teams. It happens. How did i keep my job over christmas when you see Stuart McCall sacked by Bradford?!"

"I spoke to him and said don’t get down because he did a great job. I feel sorry for some of the young lads in the management."

Neil Warnock on Grujic

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Warnock insists Liverpool loanee Marko Grujic will return to Anfield a better player. He has assured Jurgen Klopp and the Reds’ fans that the midfielder is in the best place for his development."

"I think it’s toughened him up being with us. When he first came into training, he left a little bit to be desired should we say.
But you soon get into it with us – when you train as hard as we do, you want to be like that."

"With the pace of the Championship, he has to get involved quickly because if you have too many touches you’ve lost it and you’re under the cosh. He’s learning and he’ll be better."

Neil Warnock held a pre-match press conference on Thursday morning, before the Bluebirds head to South East London to face Millwall this Friday (KO: 7:45pm).

Thursday 8th February 2018

Having come away 4-1 victors from Elland Road last time out, the Bluebirds will look to add another three points to their promotion push against the fourteenth-place Lions.

“I think Neil (Harris) has done a fabulous job at Millwall from day one,” began Neil. “He’s matured as he’s gone on.

“These are my kind of places to go. I like going to places like Millwall because this is what it’s all about. Both teams are very similar in the way they play, and how they ask their players to play.

“Everybody has to roll their sleeves up because both sides will be giving everything, and that’s how it should be.”

The Gaffer was asked about the form of winger Junior Hoilett, who has already achieved a career best nine goals in all competitions this season, with three months of the campaign remaining.

“He’s a revelation - and always has been for me. He was training with the U18 side at QPR when I walked in the door, pulled him over and told him that I’d tried to sign him two or three times and that he was going to play on Saturday.

“He was the man of the match in the first game he played for me. He’s one of the players that is always first on the teamsheet.

“I think he’s matured into a far better player than he’s ever been. I think this is his best season.”

The Bluebirds boss finished up by discussing his side and their strengths ahead a tough trip to the New Den.

“I want to entertain, that’s how I am, and I’m not going to change now. If a player signs for me, they’ve got to be physical and powerful, but I also think we’ve got quite a lot of skill.

“We’re flying miles ahead of where we should be, but we’ve got to keep our feet on the ground. “There’s two places up for grabs and we’ve got to try to get one of those.”

Man City: Neil Warnock says Premier League leaders make 'horrendous' tackles

BBC

Thursday 8th February 2018

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock has accused Manchester City of making "horrendous tackles" as the fall-out from their FA Cup meeting last month continues.

Man City winger Leroy Sane suffered ankle ligament damage in a tackle by Joe Bennett during the fourth-round tie on 28 January.

The Premier League leaders won 2-0 but boss Pep Guardiola said he feared Cardiff had put his players at risk.

"I wish they'd put a still of [Kevin] De Bruyne's tackle," said Warnock.

"And the bad tackle of Fernandinho. And then when they played West Brom the following week. There were some horrendous tackles and nothing was said because there were another eight or nine games.

"We were unlucky on the day because Chelsea and Newcastle was the only other game and that was a damp squib."

Are Man City's players being 'butchered'?
Bennett was booked for his challenge on Sane, before being sent off in the dying seconds for a tackle on City substitute Brahim Diaz.

Warnock made Bennett train on his own last weekend when he was suspended for the Sky Bet Championship win at Leeds.

"I slaughtered him when I saw it," said Warnock. "I said 'you do a horrific tackle and I get three days of hell' because I got more stick than Joe.

"The same people keep on having a go and you just have to get on with it. But we are genuine. We go into tackles but we also play some good football."

Warnock was speaking in the build-up to Cardiff's league trip to Millwall on Friday and made similar criticisms of City in a news conference last week.

"I said it was a bad tackle at the time," he said on Friday. "If you look at Kevin De Bruyne's tackle on Jazz [Richards], his studs are right on his thigh.

"You look at Fernandinho's booking, that was a bad tackle. You look at West Brom this week [in which Matt Phillips and James McClean committed bad fouls on Brahim Diaz and De Bruyne].

"We were the only game worth commenting on so we took the brunt. There's only one bad tackle really in the game. "

Marko Grujic was not trying hard enough during his initial Cardiff City training sessions

Neil Warnock on Marko Grujic's effort in training...

By Empire of the Kop

Thursday 8th February 2018

Marko Grujic was not trying hard enough during his initial Cardiff City training sessions, claims manager Neil Warnock.

However, the veteran boss admires the Serb’s talent enormously and claims he’s quickly ‘toughened up’!

Neil Warnock reveals key detail of Marko Grujic loan & lauds LFC’s Serb

Grujic is spending the rest of the season on loan at Cardiff in the Championship, where he’s playing the first-team football he so desperately needed.

He’s already made three appearances, putting in the
kind of defensive work-rate that made him trend on Twitter in the victory over Leeds..

“He’s catching up and he’s getting better,” Warnock told WalesOnline.

“It’s difficult for him to be flung straight in, with the second game being Manchester City.

“I think it’s toughened him up being with us. When he first came into training, he left a little bit to be desired should we say.

“But you soon get into it with us – when you train as hard as we do, you want to be like that.

“And I think it’s improved his game. The minimum requirement is effort because when you have ability like he has, it comes through on top. I think he’s realised that early doors and wants to stay in the team.

“He wants to play and wants to go to the World Cup. He’s in the window and has got 17 games to show it.

“I won’t play him if he doesn’t deserve to be in the team – I keep reading I’ve got to play him but all it is is that he have to pay more money if I don’t. The club agreed to that so it’s not my worry.”
