"FOR SOME CLUBS ITS UNFAIR / PLUS WHO STOOD OUT? "

Postby Forever Blue » Mon Feb 12, 2018 7:59 pm

What stood out for me :thumbright:

Well over 6,000 Pompey fans travelling away to MK Dons :thumbright: :thumbright:

Over 1,000 Plymouth fans travelling a near 600 mile round trip to Shrewsbury :thumbright:

Bristol Rovers selling their full Allocation to Oxford and beaming match live to their ground :thumbright:

Over a 1,000 Preston travelling over a 400 mile round trip to Brentford :thumbright:

For some clubs its unfair as they are given less tickets/restricted in their away support, yet could take thousands more.

As come the end of the season their away averages would be far far higher.

Top Championship away attendances this weekend:

4,500 - Sheffield Wednesday (@ Barnsley sold allocation)

2,236 - Leeds United (@ Sheffield United sold allocation)

2,100 - Birmingham City (@ Villa)

1,706 - Norwich City (@ Derby)

1,595 - Sunderland (@ Bristol City)

1,002 - Preston North End (@ Brentford)

943 - Hull City (@ Nottingham Forest)

805- Cardiff City (@ Millwall)

The fact Sunderland in the position they are in take more away than us and a lot bigger distance says it all really, hats off to those regular CCFC fans who travel away to all games :notworthy:

It is what it is, it is not going to make me lose sleep at night and there is not a lot that we can do about it really.

For many clubs distance is not a problem :thumbright:

Carlisle,Bristol Rovers,Pompey,Grimsby,Sunderland,Boro, Newcastle, Doncaster etc their fans don't moan about distances :thumbright:

I use to love the long distances, We've taken 1,500 to Hartlepool,Darlington,Colchester, 3,500 to Newcastle,1,200 to Sunderland on a Tuesday night in the Championship in the past :thumbright: :bluebird:

But We seem to have lost our away support badly, every excuse is made now by many.

I've been to Darlighton, Hartlepool,Carlisle with Cardiff etc about 8 times each, loved those days :bluebird: :bluebird:

Totally agree with you about Sunderland's loyal fans :thumb right:

Those that still travel away week in week out ,nothing but respect for them :thumbright: :thumbright: not many old faces left.

I think it was a lot cheaper in the days of those trips Annis, you could get a train a long distance for a tenner, these days it is ridiculous the price of travel by train compared to Europe. It costs me £22 return from Neath! I have no idea why our away support is poor, we cannot say people are using excuses as in this day and age people also choose other things to do or spend money on other things.

Personally I would never go to Leeds again due to price of tickets, not an excuse but a reason why and I also pick my away games. I think maybe that Villa away will see a good turnout, Brentford also and Sheff Utd aswell, potentially Hull depending how we stand in the table. :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Dean, I 100% agree its not cheap to travel, but it was in them days still expensive as wages were lower. But it has not stopped other clubs away fans still travelling. WE have lost big time our hardcore away support in the last 7 years.

Leeds every clubs fans are fuming with as they are out and out robbers at £39 a ticket :o

But your Readings away etc at £20 a ticket we should always sell out :thumbright: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Do you think because we have played the same teams for years makes a difference? When I book away I tend to try and do ground I haven't done yet - There isn't many so I have done some more than 3 or 4 times.

I think your spot on, have said it many times. People like to go to a new ground. Cant think of many grounds I haven't done in the championship, even those that come down from the prem ive usually been to.

And as others said its a lot more expensive than it used to be, yes wages were less then but they do not compare to the inflation of an away day which has gone through the roof and if people are paying big money most people like a new ground to do to, not the same ones we have the past 10 years.

Pompey, Sunderland going to new grounds I think?

Did our away attendances improve when we went up and had new grounds?

ill be honest I have very little interest in what other teams take away.

It says nothing. Sunderland have given their fans 86 seasons in the top division and they are 7th in the all time top flightseasons list .we are 40th on the list with 16 top flight seasons

Luke,

Can’t fans like you just give praise to other clubs fans, who really turn out in numbers :thumbright:

Pompey have been in the lowervdivodions for nearly 5 years now.
Plus Pompey fans have never stopped going.

Bristol Rovers, Plymouth etc they keep going.

As to Sunderland always kept a massive loyal support.

Clubs like Bradford, Grimsby, Lincoln etc have been in the lower Leagues for years.

Luke so would we take 6,000 plus fans for a midd table League one away(div 3) away game if we had not say played at say Walsall's ground if they gave us that many tickets?

Liam,

Bradford, Pompey, Plymouth, Grimsby, Lincoln, Rovers etc have been in the lower leagues for years.

We give 101 excuses for home crowds yet No excuses for Leeds/ Man City home games

And away instead of acknowledging other clubs good away Support we like to pick holes in it

I don't feel the need to praise other clubs to be honest no. It's impressive yes but I don't really care about them to much it I'm honest. Attendances to me don't mean much other than a club making a bit of extra money.

No I don't think we would, I've been to Walsall it's a dump  I think our days of huge away support have done.

I do think if we had a lower league club away in the cup like walsall we would take a decent following but not on a regular basis.

Luke, everyone loves / likes to talk about crowds, but to some it’s when it suits them.
I am not comparing our crowds with other clubs, I gave up that a long time ago as it hurts.
I just put the crowds out like I usually have for years as many posters enjoy reading them including myself :thumbright:

If they don’t interest you, u seem to always get involved in them

Attendances to me personally and many others mean a lot including our own manager and club :thumbright: :bluebird:

Liam, so would we take 6,000 plus fans for a midd table League one away(div 3) away game if we had not say played at say Walsall's ground if they gave us that many tickets?

I don't attend home games anymore as you are aware, I try and get to as many aways as possible but money is the issue.

its usually £50.00 for bus & ticket ( sometimes more ) then its the cost of alcohol, food. I usually spend about £150.00 on an away day so going every other week isn't possible.
Some will say go by supports club buses to make it cheaper etc but I want to go with the same group of lads so its difficult.

I don't knock any other teams away support - In fact I like to keep an eye out for them also. :thumbright:

Tell you what Annis put a proper title on them and I won't need to click on them then

It's like the random away section pictures, I have zero interest in them, I'm sure others do but if they had a normal title like Derby count away to wolves I'll be sure not to click on them :thumbright:

Funny Luke,

When City were getting brilliant home crowds back in 2010,2011,2012-2013
Massive interest on here regarding crowds and I mean massive interest :thumbright:

8 years ago we were doing guess the crowd :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Now its why are u putting them up

Yeah i understand guess the crowd that's just a bit of fun.

I understand a thread about attendances and what can be done to improve them. But it seems multiple threads every week going over the same ground again and again. Nothing we can do as fans if people don't want to go to games. This is an issue for the club.

Luke, well it seems more and more what to discuss it, as our team gets better, the supporters does not improve and we seem to be in the main talking point and u can understand why.

Yes our fans will turn up for Brentford away and Wolves home.
