About Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town Football Club (also known as Ipswich, The Blues, Town, or The Tractor Boys) is a professional association football club based in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. They play in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system, having last appeared in the Premier League in the 2001–02 season.

The club was founded in 1878 but did not turn professional until 1936, and was subsequently elected to join the Football League in 1938. They play their home games at Portman Road in Ipswich. The only fully professional football club in Suffolk, they have a long-standing and fierce rivalry with Norwich City in Norfolk, with whom they have contested the East Anglian derby 139 times since 1902. The club's traditional home colours are blue shirts and white shorts.

Ipswich have won the English league title once, in their first season in the top flight in 1961–62, and have twice finished runners-up, in 1980–81 and 1981–82. They won the FA Cup in 1977–78, and the UEFA Cup in 1980–81. They have competed in the top two tiers of English football uninterrupted since 1957–58. They have competed in all three European club competitions, and have never lost at home in European competition, defeating Real Madrid, A.C. Milan, Inter Milan, Lazio and Barcelona, among others.

Previous Meeting

We beat Ipswich at home back in October. We won 3-1 as Junior Hoilett, Omar Bogle and Danny Ward scored. Bersant Celina got the away side’s goal.

City to edge it 2-1.

Plenty of car parks near the Riverside (Station) Hotel, which is the main away pub, opposite the railway station and 10 minute walk from the ground. We will be in there from around 6pm

Lot of lads want to go but can't get transport as for some reason they won't travel with CCSC.

Could do with another independent bus going up, but all the organisers are working.

I've got meetings up there so will be up there anyway

I thought Ipswich were quite tough today and there are a few wind-up merchants in their team.
Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner in particular who were also guilty of diving a lot as was Dominic Iorfa.
They did it so often it must be coached rather than spontaneous so I would expect them to do that against us as well.

Hope we have a decent ref... it's Andy Davies.
He's given 3 red cards so far this season and we had him for the home game v Norwich this season.

They have a decent keeper and pack the defence - even at home

How Emyr doing for them? I remember a few people moaning we had sold him and Whits at the same time. Even though it was obvious neither fit into how we would play.

Will be a tough game, and probably won't be pretty to watch. I think one of those matches where we will really have to grind out a result, but we have shown that we are capable of doing that under Warnock, and I don't see us losing this one. A point would be good, but if we can sneak a win that would be a great bonus. 1-0 would do just fine, and if Zohore could get on the score sheet that would be even better, particularly for his confidence. :bluescarf:

McCarthy been telling his own fans to f**k off? No reason we can’t use that to our advantage on Wednesday. They are bound to become a little impatient quicker if we can keep it tight :ayatollah:

The Football League have now announced the Match Day officials that will take charge of the game between Ipswich Town and Cardiff City this Wednesday.

Ipswich Town host Cardiff City on Wednesday February 21 for the game at Portman Road and the match carries a 7.45pm kick off.

Referee: Andy Davies
Assistant Refs: Daniel Leach and Daniel Robathan
Fourth Official: Trevor Kettle

Match Day referee Davies has officiated 19 games so far this season, showing 74 yellow cards and three red cards so far.

He took in 38 games in 2016/17 with a return of 136 yellow cards and four red cards.

His highest card count that year was eight yellows in the game between Cardiff City and Aston Villa. He also showed seven yellows and one red in the match between Ipswich Town and Brighton.

He took charge of 36 matches in 2015/16 and in those games, across all competitions and football divisions, he handed out a total of 127 yellow cards and five red cards.

He was most card happy in the match between Charlton and Leeds on December 12 with a total of eight yellow cards being shown. Wimbledon and Notts County on September saw seven yellows and he also showed seven in the November tie between MK Dons and Charlton.

A former player with a number of clubs at youth level, Davies capitalised on this experience to make a rapid rise through the refereeing ranks. He was appointed to the EFL Referees List in 2012/13 and since then has refereed over 100 EFL matches.

Warnock eager to set the record straight

Neil Warnock has won eight of his last 10 league meetings with Ipswich Town.

Interestingly, his last victory - a 3-1 win at the Cardiff City Stadium - also came ahead of a Severnside derby.

Bristol City come to the Welsh capital on Sunday, and Warnock will be desperate to build up some much-needed momentum to give his side the best possible chance of avenging their defeat at Ashton Gate earlier in the season.
