“ VAR APPROVED BY LAWMAKERS / WILL BE USED AT WORLD CUP “

Video assistant referees are set to be used at this year's World Cup in Russia after football's lawmakers voted to approve the technology.

VAR has been trialled in some domestic English cup games this season, and has been used in Germany and Italy.

The International Football Association Board (Ifab) "unanimously approved" its introduction on a permanent basis after a meeting in Zurich on Saturday.

Leagues and competitions must now apply to Ifab to implement the technology.

Not really surprised at that but, for me, VAR has rapidly proven itself as a much a hindrance to the game as it is to ensuring decisions are correct. Games with VAR no longer flow and 'additional' time is not always added properly

If the Authorities are confident their referees are as good as they can be and have integrity, then the 'beautiful game' should be left alone and the post-match debates allowed to continue; otherwise, we might as well all stay at home and watch FIFA 18 :(

Lots of Premiership clubs not keen on idea though! and looking at spurs game var seemed to dictate every decision even when it's not suppose to do? EG a yellow card was given and apparently var official looked at it in respect of did it warrant a red! Not a decision var is suppose to look at . :o

Should be for penalty decisions only by the referee.
Managers should be able to have 2 challenges per game to ask for VAR to check on a incident durin a game (ie - offside and serious foul play)
All the pressure is on the manager then not the referee and it would allow the game to flow.
If the referee has unlimited access to it then they will use it as much as possible and it will ruin the game.
It would be better for the VAR to referee and give instructions to the ref on the pitch

Agree pen incidents and mistaken identity only! Can see it going way of rugby where ref 99.9% of times asks tmo for decision, classic example with spurs was disallowing son pen , ref was correct but var was consulted even though its not in var remit to do so?
