Slagging match between Wolves boss Nuno and Cardiff's Neil Warnock continues as final table predicted - Birmingham Live

Monday 9th April 2018

Nuno hits back

Nuno Espirito Santo has fired a warning to promotion rival Neil Warnock - ‘don’t ever say I’m not a respectful person.”

Wolves were victorious in Cardiff on Friday evening when Ruben Neves struck a fabulous free kick in the second half, as the Championship’s top two sides met.

The game was never likely to peter out, though - and the drama that followed was something Nuno himself admitted post-match he’d never experienced before.

The Bluebirds were handed two penalty kicks in stoppage time, one taken by sub Gary Madine and the other by Junior Hoilett.

Remarkably, Wolves’ lead remained in tact, thanks to John Ruddy and the woodwork.

Such drama sparked crazy celebrations on the touchline and Nuno and his staff swiftly joined their players on the field of play at the final whistle.

Warnock, though, was less than impressed that he didn’t receive a handshake from his opposing number, and told him as much.

Nuno, though apologetic, didn’t appear impressed either that the 69-year-old questioned his respect.

“It was nothing to do with football etiquette or manners,” Nuno told the Daily Mirror.

“I have been involved in football for many, many years. One of the officials told me that, in Britain, there is this habit of shaking hands. I understand and I’m sorry. I will try to avoid this situation.

“But nobody can doubt my football education. Nobody can doubt about me being respectful. Last season, I was coaching in the Champions League, and now I’m very proud to be coaching in the Championship.

“I said publicly, if Warnock wants to attend me in my office, I will say these exact words – I am sorry, Neil. I am sorry, Tony Pulis. I came to Britain and I will try to adapt. But don’t ever, ever say that I’m not a respectful person.”

Final table predicted

A computer programme has delved into the Championship data and predicted how the season will end.

And it makes interesting reading for Aston Villa fans - but spare a thought for Cardiff City supporters!

The predictor at Football Web Pages reckons Villa will finish fourth, the position they're currently in, while Fulham will pip Cardiff City to the second automatic promotion spot.

It uses an algorithm based on previous scorelines to predict the outcomes of future matches.

Villa will finish the season on 83 points, the predictor says, a haul which will see them contesting the play-offs at the end of the season.

Cardiff will finish third with 87 points, with Fulham ending the campaign in second with a haul of 91 points.

The predictor thinks Steve Bruce's Villa will beat Cardiff 1-0 on Tuesday evening before winning 2-0 against Leeds United on Friday.

Then. they will draw 1-1 with Barnsley, beat Derby County 1-0, and end the regular season by losing 1-0 to Millwall at the Den.

The least surprising thing about the table is Wolves at the top - with boffins expecting them to amass 104 points.

What Warnock said

Neil Warnock says there are no hard feelings with Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo after Wanderers beat Cardiff on Friday night in dramatic circumstances.

Warnock took exception to Nuno’s reaction to the final whistle, when he and his staff joined the players on the pitch in celebrating their victory, which had almost not been seen out when Gary Madine and Junior Hoilett both stepped up to take penalties in stoppage time.

The former saw his saved by John Ruddy before the latter crashed his against the woodwork, and Wolves’ lead - handed to them by Ruben Neves’ free kick - remained in tact.

That Nuno left Warnock hanging on the touch-line infuriated the 69-year-old, who in no uncertain terms told the Portuguese manager to clear off when he approached him to shake hands.

In his post-match press conference, a clearly angry Warnock said that he wasn’t interested in speaking with Nuno, but afterwards the Yorkshireman admitted things had cooled.

“Yeah it’s water off a duck’s back now, it was just at the time,” Warnock told talkSPORT .

“I saw (Nuno celebrating) last week against Middlesbrough and I was quite furious about him doing that with Tony Pulis and I thought someone’s got to tell him about British football and what you do.

“And we all want to run on the pitch but it only takes a second to shake my hand.

“It was a great game, good atmosphere and a fabulous goal.

You can look back on things and say ‘we might have done this differently’ but if you can’t score two penalties you’re not going to get any points. But 30,000 on a Friday night, it was a super night apart from the disappointment.”

He can say what he wants, his actions prove otherwise.
Sadly I think the predictor will be correct for once

Predictor goes on form and no one in country as better than Fulham's but it's the next 5 games that count not previous 20!

Very true Al but I can’t see Fulham slipping up now they can see the great opportunity they have. We’ve been average for a while but managed to scrape points, they are in better form with an easier run in.

Predictor has 4 wins and a draw for Fulham not gunna happen. 3 wins will see us safe IMO. So would 2 wins and 2 draws.

Nuno is an arrogant prick and he has done it before this season, and does he really think that coaching in the champions league makes him special ?

Paul Clement has done the same and we all know he has failed wherever he had a job.

First class prick

Since when as form mattered in champ? If remember rightly earlier it had us as 6th just after Xmas? May be easy on paper but milwall brum and Sunderland may have something to play for so who knows what will happen? Take Tues we win they lose or draw totally different ball game it's that close.

Brentford also pushing for the playoffs and it a derby game said it many times already they are not winning all their remaining games they will drop points in at least two of them if we win 3 games we will finish second. Unfourtunetly see us drawing with Villa and then losing to Norwich. But after that can honestly see us winning the next 4 or 3 and a draw away at Hull maybe.

I can only see Fulham slipping up at Millwall to be honest. They are such a strong footballing team and remember how we were stuffed on Boxing Day.I hope I am wrong but I think we will face the agony of the play offs.

i dont write us off as much as others are in the playoffs. i think theres no reason we cant come through a 2 legged match against boro/millwall/bristol
