Coin 'lodged in officer's eye' after Villa v Cardiff

11 April 2018

The officer and a girl were injured outside Villa Park, police said
A coin thrown at a police officer at a football match had to be removed by a doctor after becoming lodged in his socket, police said.
The officer was injured, but not blinded, in the attack outside Villa Park after the club's victory over Cardiff on Tuesday.
West Midlands Police said a 14-year-old girl also suffered a facial injury after being hit by a bottle.
Both were hurt as away supporters were held back in the coach park.

The force said the officer was left with some bleeding around his eye, but the cornea remained intact. He is undergoing a course of antibiotics and returned to work within thevstation.

The officer was left with bleeding around his eye
Inspector Nigel Sarling, from West Midlands Police, said: "It is completely unacceptable in society, let alone at a football game, to see such stupid and senseless acts.

"A teenage girl was left with a bloody nose and we don't underestimate how traumatic an experience this will have been.
"One of our officers could quite easily have been left blinded in one eye and we will be offering our full support after what was a highly distressing situation."

Ok, Maybe he should've walked up to the police line and punched them in the face instead.
That would be super clever

Agree. It must take a lot of guts to throw a coin from the safety of a group of people. Must have been a real tough nut to be so brave.

Full resposibility lies with the police? ... and what about the mindless moron who threw a coin and the equally brain-dead asshole who threw that bottle?? FFS

Are you suggesting that the throwing of a coin was the right decision ... I mean, if he had walked up to the officer and punched him he'd be arrested? So, yeah we should applaud the thugs decision making at least, right?

I'm not condoning anything mate. Just like someone said above - people are going to react in these types of ways if they get treated like shite.

Always someone else's fault. Coin throwing from the safety of a crowd = Wanker.

Goes hand in hand with fans not having the bottle to see through the promotion fight without casting blame all over the shop.

Some football fans really do show out their lack of character and upbringing.

Yes full responsibility lies with the police I went to Villa last year and again this year and the police goad and want reactions.

City fans last night were leaving happily singing and moving along until they the police decided it was going too well and their overtime may get cut so decided to A. Physically assault without reason this is already being investigated by the complaints commisdion

B. Verbally abuse, I heard from police officers "f**k off" "c**t" and "f*cking move yourself"

So back To my point yes I fully blame the police.

What the girl said:

Some people have been wondering what’s gone on and I’m just going to say now so no one has to question me... when I went to see Cardiff play villa we came out chanting just like any other football fan would and because Cardiff are such sore losers they decide to let off flares and fight with the Villa just like dickheads, there was one who pushed my little brother in the head bare in mind he’s only 6 coming 7 and they didn’t give a toss. My dad was arguing the toss with this bald bloke and me and Ryan managed to pull him away but as we did I turned around and a bottle out of no where was lobbed at my face and felt like an house brick got smacked into my face. Then because the police think they’re better at their job than they actually are they could’ve give 2 shits and pushed my dad and Ry out of the way and when I turned around and said look at my face they shrugged their shoulders and walked off!!!! I want who ever did this to my face found so please feel free to share this around, I know the pictures don’t look bad, bad but at the time my nose was pissing of blood and I was rally concussed. Dirty sheep shaggers man.
