Cardiff City are eyeing up an audacious move for rival Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski according to reports from the Media.

Monday 21st May 2018.

It has already been reported that Cardiff are interested in signing Sam Johnstone from Manchester United. He is currently on loan at Aston Villa and while they would want to make the deal permanent, it might not be possible they don’t beat Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final and get promoted to the Premier League. But with the deal for Johnstone being in flux, Cardiff are looking at other potential targets.

Cardiff City linked with move for Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski – reports

Fabianski reportedly wants to leave the Swans this summer

Sunday 20th May 2018

Cardiff City are keen on bringing in Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski as the Bluebirds look to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

Neil Warnock will be hoping to add more strength to his squad before August as the Bluebirds prepare for their first season back in the top flight.

Neil Etheridge had the number one jersey throughout the Bluebirds’ Championship campaign, but Warnock is reportedly looking elsewhere to challenge Etheridge.

Fabianski reportedly wants to leave the Swans this summer after suffering relegation from the Premier League.

According to The Sun, the Bluebirds have expressed an interest in landing the experienced stopper who suffered relegation with the Swans last weekend.

Fabianski has become a fan favourite since making the switch to the Liberty Stadium in 2007, though he is set to depart the club this summer.

The Poland international featured in each of the Swans’ 38 Premier League games last season, keeping nine clean sheets in the process.

The Bluebirds are, however, reportedly facing competition from a host of Premier League clubs in the race to land the experienced goalkeeper.

The Guardian also suggest Watford, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and West Ham are all said to be in interested in his services.

A deal would be an unlikely one for Neil Warnock to pull off as the Swans would not be keen on selling their star man to their close rivals, but Fabianski could make the switch if the Bluebirds offer the right price.

They get demoted while we get promoted and now we are after their best player as we are still waving them goodbye. And it's only been a week! It must be absolutely killing them.

If Carlsberg made Karma........

To stay up we need to sign at least 4 or 5 players who are Premier League quality and who will be automatic starters. That will cost money. Lots of it. For me Etheridge got better and better as the season went on not only being a class shot stopper but also commanding his box. He has got better at reading the game and seeing where the danger is. I would far prefer we used the money available to strengthen midfield and attack. Bring in a reliable back up to Etheridge. Someone who wont let us down but wont cost the earth.

Would be an excellent signing. I like Etheridge, but was he really tested last season? A lot of games he didn’t have to do anything, but kick a goal kick straight.

I like Etheridge too, but we are in the Premier League now and need a proven Premier League Keeper, Striker, and Central midfielder to complement Ralls, plus whatever else we can afford. Fabianski would easily be number one and Etheridge good back up, that would be one position filled !!!

We need a strong spine and to improve the chances of scoring and reduce the chances of conceding !!!

Cardiff City keen to bring in Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone - reports
By Katie Sands

The on-loan English footballer has been in marvellous form this season

Cardiff City are said to be keen on bringing in Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone after his brilliant form on loan at Aston Villa.

Johnstone has become a key player at Villa Park after impressing with excellent form across almost 18 months, spanning two seasons.

Reckoned to be a large factor in Steve Bruce's side's campaign this season, with Villa preparing to take on Fulham in the Championship play-off final on Saturday.

Villa boss Steve Bruce has already said it would be great to keep 25-year-old Johnstone at the club for "the next few years" as the side's first-choice, it looks like there is competition for the player.

But the Sun reports that Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock is also keen on a deal for the player.

Warnock has already stated that he is targeting six new additions over the coming months.

The Sun reports : "Steve Bruce will have to fight Neil Warnock for Manchester United keeper Sam Johnstone if Aston Villa go up.

"Bruce wants to keep his on-loan No 1, who has played a key role in Villa’s promotion bid. And if he has Premier League football to offer, he should get his man.

"However, Cardiff chief Warnock is keen on a deal too and is already in the top flight. And he is ready to pounce if Villa lose the play-off final against Fulham next Saturday."

Elsewhere, Birmingham Live report that Johnstone's parent club United, who boast international stoppers David De Gea and Sergio Romero, are unlikely to be able to offer him regular football any time soon.

Johnstone’s contract was set to expire with the Red Devils this summer, but they triggered the 12-month option they had in their favour which extended the deal until the summer of 2019.

That’s not to say that Jose Mourinho is intent on keeping Johnstone - it does mean that any suitors will have to pay a fee, however, where they may have previously hoped to secure the keeper on a free transfer.

Johnstone’s contract is thought to be worth around £25,000 a week, Birmingham Live reports .

What Steve Bruce has said:

“We are all aware of his ability, he has just go better and better, that’s what a young player does.

“Playing week in week out has helped Sam Johnstone become a very, very good goalkeeper. We are doing our best to keep him if we can and we would love him to stay.

“I know he is very, very happy at the club and he enjoys playing week in week out which is the most important thing.

“It would be great to keep him here for the next few years as Villa’s No.1.”

What Johnstone has said:

“If you leave, then the one downside is that you haven’t done that despite being there since you were 10.

“I’d have liked to have done it. But you’ve got the world’s best goalkeeper, David de Gea, at the club and you can’t wait around forever.

“You realise you might have to take the example of someone like Michael Keane, who went to Burnley and has gone from strength to strength.

“It’s been fun getting games in and getting different experiences but I’m 25 now and ready to settle. Hopefully Villa get promoted and we’ll take things from there.”

What Jose Mourinho has said

“Sam Johnstone at Aston Villa is playing all the time and is an important player for them and they are going to fight for promotion. We are also happy to have him there.”

17 HOURS AGOstevec3 (on Twitter):

"Etheridge has grown since becoming a bluebird he has excelled he’s a first class stopper and has done us proud this season, we do need another keeper to challenge for the number 1 spot, the first hurdle would be if Aston Villa win the playoffs then the wage also being number 2"

LUKASZ FABIANSKI to Newcastle/Watford/Crystal Palace/Cardiff City

This one certainly forced an involuntary raise of the eyebrows on Sunday.

Fabianski will be looking for a club in one of Europe's top leagues and shouldn't struggle to find multiple suitors.

He could be an attractive prospect to a club as high up the league as Liverpool, but will certainly be able to do a job at the likes of Newcastle or Watford.

It's difficult to imagine Fabianski, the same goalkeeper who left the Liberty Stadium surface in floods of tears on the final day, joining the Swans' bitter rivals.

If that move does advance, and one would have to imagine it is unlikely in the extreme, the SA1 club would surely make their neighbours pay through the nose for one of their most prized assets.

Got a feeling he'll sign for Palace, as they'll offload a few keepers.

Cardiff City are eyeing up an audacious move for rival Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski according to a reports from the Media.

And one of the other targets could end up causing a riot in South Wales. They have been looking at Fabianski who currently plays for their fierce rivals Swansea City. The 33-year-old goalkeeper has been their number one since signing for them in 2014 but his future at the club is in doubt after they were relegated from the Premier League. And just to rub salt into the wounds after they took their place in the top tier, Cardiff could look to sign him this summer.

It goes without saying that this will be a tough transfer to pull off. Swansea would not want to lose one of their top players full stop and the fact that he could go to their main rival would be particularly galling. This means that they might drive up the price to try and put off Cardiff and even Fabianski might not want to risk his reputation in Swansea by heading to the Welsh capital.

Originally I thought yes ideal but signing someone at that age even for a keeper he would have to come in as number 1, otherwise I don't see the point. Id rather a keeper to challenge Etheridge, either someone on a fee who is older or pay a fee for someone like Johnstone.
