Cardiff City ace mocks Leeds United fans on Twitter

Cardiff star joked with Leeds fans after Josh Warrington's boxing win.

A general view of Elland Road during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Fulham at Elland Road on December 13, 2014 in Leeds, England.

Cardiff City ace Anthony Pilkington had a joke with Leeds United fans after Josh Warrington's boxing win over Lee Selby.

Leeds born Warrington beat Welshman Selby in a hard fought contest at Leeds United's home ground Elland Road on Saturday.

Pilkington was disappointed for Selby, but congratulated Warrington on Twitter.

He also had a bit of banter with Leeds supporters, joking and mocking them that this was the only way they could celebrate a win at Elland Road.

Pilkington's Cardiff thumped Leeds at Elland Road earlier this year, winning a one sided contest 4-1, which proved to be Thomas Christiansen's final game in charge.

Leeds ended up finishing in 13th place while Pilkington and Cardiff won automatic promotion to the Premier League after securing second place.

The match itself was attended by over 22,000 boxing aficionados, amongst then many 1000s of Leeds United fans. The sound of ‘Marching on Together’, ‘All Leeds Are We’ and other Elland Road terrace favourites could be heard bouncing around the stadium.

There had been a fair amount of ‘needle’ between both Warrington and Selby in the build up to the bout. It was something that was referred to by Cardiff City player Anthony Pilkington in the following tweet:

Woah loads of Leeds fans out with the banter tonight. You all Wasn’t so confident Friday was you! Fair play to Warrington though very good performance tonight deserved it!!. So Cute having to turn to a boxer to win something at Elland Road though enjoy your night lads

The tweet itself does pick up on the doubt that many Warrington fans had ahead of the match-up with Selby, the Welshman being a slick and consummate boxer. However, the send off in saying “So Cute having to turn to a boxer to win something at Elland Road though” was bound to get a response from Leeds United fans.

It had the required and expected effect.
