Signed by Paul Trollope, Lambert's impact was always going to be limited at Cardiff given that his best days were behind him.

He will no doubt have passed on his experience to the likes of Kenneth Zohore who flourished when given a more prominent role.

But the former Liverpool man was never going to be the striker to help Cardiff get back into the Premier League under Warnock, and he announced his retirement from the game a few months after being released by the Bluebirds.

Verdict: A no-brainer that he had to go.
