News West Ham Forward To Cardiff A Done Deal

Submitted by neville nixon

Having splashed out just over £10 Million of the transfer money received from the sale of Dimitri Payet on buying Scottish International Robert Snodgrass from Hull City, West Ham will be looking to recoup as much money as possible for the player who was sent out on loan to Aston Villa last season. Villa's failure to make the promised land that is the Premier League by being beaten in the play off final by Fulham means that they are no longer able to afford players like Snodgrass even on loan due to Financial Fair Play rules as they are now approaching their final year of parachute payments.

While Aston Villa are left to deal with the disappointment of another year in the Championship, newly promoted Cardiff City under the management of 'old foe' Neil Warnock who has worked with Snodgrass before, seem to be showing an interest in the 30 year old winger/forward who arrived at the London Stadium in the 'January Sales' and was never able to recreate the form that had made him Hull's best player and captain, he endured a miserable time with the club while Slaven Bilic was manager and was farmed out on loan for the next season, but not before there was the venting of a lot of bad blood both ways on behalf of the Hammers' hierarchy and the player himself, ultimately ending in a situation where a return to West Ham United was all but impossible.

Some will say Snodgrass was never given a fair crack of the whip and that he was played out of position by Slaven Billic, others would say he looked at least a yard of the pace and that the move from the small goldfish pond that was Hull City to the Big Ocean that is West Ham was just too much for him to cope with, it is believed he also found living away from his young family very difficult, which beggars the question why move in the first place? It couldn't have been for the money from Snodgrass' point of view, it was probably more a question of Hull grabbing what they could for one of their few assets while they were still able to do so!

Cardiff City target West Ham midfielder

Posted by Sean Whetstone on June 2, 2018 in News

Cardiff City have reportedly made Hammer Robert Snodgrass one of their top transfer targets claims Wales Online. Neil Warnock wants a wide man with proven Premier League experience this summer, and in Snodgrass the veteran boss has identified a player he admires and has worked with before.

The Welsh Media say they understand that Cardiff will make a move for Snodgrass in the coming weeks — preferably on loan — but West Ham may want to keep the Scottish international.

Hopefully how much would he cost tho I wouldn’t pay To much considering his age but he’s still got a few years left in him

Re: Robert Snodgrass

The WestHamFans.org headline states that it is a ‘done deal’ however the article itself includes the words ‘shown interest’ which is completely different. Will be interesting to see if it is a ‘done deal’.

Hoilett’s replacement? :?:

Hmm

everyone involved with English football knows of him, but it just feels like a familiar signing as what Liam Feeney was for us... Like, obviously Snodgrass has much better quality, but It doesn't really excite me for a wide man, espcially for how we play with pace and especially since I don't even think he's faster than Pilkington...

I see your thinking but I reckon it depends how NW will set up the team next year. If he plays with a forward thinking ‘number 10’ rather than Paterson then a wide player who can ‘tuck in’ to the midfield duo may be what’s required for certain games Early days though so who knows

Al, remember £12m is peanuts these days. However I would prefer a loan move.

Robert Snodgrass wanted by Premier League new boys after impressive Aston Villa loan - reports
By Joseph Chapman

Cardiff City are targeting Robert Snodgrass as Neil Warnock prepares Cardiff City for a return to the Premier League.

The Bluebirds have enjoyed only a single season in the top flight, in its current form, previously - that was back in 2013-14 when they were relegated under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Now as Warnock leads them back to the big time having secured automatic promotion along with Wolves this season, Wales Online are reporting that Scottish international Snodgrass is at the top of his list of targets.

Snodgrass, 30, played 43 matches for Aston Villa last season as their bid to join Cardiff in promotion fell at the final and cruellest hurdle.

The winger, who would have likely returned to Villa on a permanent basis had they prevailed against Fulham at Wembley and secured their own place in the top flight next term, scored eight times and produced 13 assists in an impressive campaign on loan from West Ham.

Having been frozen out by Slaven Bilic and disregarded by owner David Sullivan, it looked as though Snodgrass’ short and unsuccessful spell at the London Stadium would be coming to an end.

That was until compatriot David Moyes was appointed as interim manager, and he spoke of how he hoped to include Snodgrass back into the fold this summer.

The Hammers hierarchy, however, had other ideas.

They decided against handing Moyes a long-term contract, despite his efforts in keeping them away from relegation, and have since appointed former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini.

It means that Snodgrass’ future is up in the air still, and it appears Cardiff are eager to swoop for the experience wide-man.

Snodgrass worked briefly with Warnock in 2012, during their time together at Leeds, before he completed a move to Norwich City.

Snodgrass still has two years left to run on his West Ham contract, and though the Welsh club could look at a loan deal, he is supposedly rated at £12m by the Irons.

Veteran boss Warnock has made no secret of his admiration for Snodgrass in the past.

“I was so disappointed when I was at Leeds,” Warnock told talkSPORT last month.

“A week before [the season started], Norwich came in for Snodgrass and Ken Bates said to me: ‘you’ve got to sell him for £1 million as we need the money’.

“In the end they got £3 million, and he said: ‘you can have half of whatever we get’. Then, unfortunately, two days later Ken told me the bank had stopped him from spending any money.

“Snodgrass... I could have cried. He was the one chance we had. He came to see me and I said: ‘I don’t want you to go’.

“He said: ‘just for the family gaffer, I’ve got to go!’

“And he was right and I had to let him go. That just about finished me off up there... I had no chance!”

Snodgrass took to Instagram after the crushing play-off final defeat, courtesy of Tom Cairney’s first half strike.

Cleary gutted by the loss, the Scot thanked the claret and blue faithful for their support.

“Devastated to lose, we tried for you and it wasn’t enough, I am gutted we didn’t achieve our goal, but I am delighted I got the chance to play for this terrific club and thank everybody from fans, players and staff from day one making me feel at home.

“Whatever happens I have loved pulling on that jersey and met some great people.”

Can’t really forget when he played for Leeds and he took a spit at Bellamy, when we won 4-0 there.

That said, he’d be a decent signing and has Premier League experience which is crucial. Would likely be a replacement for Hoilett, should he not sign the contract.

Nothing concrete in that report though.

Doesn't he also hit an awesome set piece? If he can find the head of some of our big boys in the box that suits our game perfectly. From corners and any free kick in the opposition's half.

Well happy with this. Every where hes been he's done well. Apart from West Ham.
Plus Warnock knows him well.

I think he will end up playing more central for us

Guess what? I'm not impressed at all with this signing his PL days are orc.

I think he will be bought in to play tge role Lee Tomlin was supposed to play. Sitting just behind the striker. Which also gives us different tactical options.

I wouldnt pay more than 5 million for him though purely down to his age

This is really important. Let's be honest, whatever we buy as our main striker, we're not going score too many in open play therefore set plays are going to be imperative to our survival.

Even with inconsistent delivery this season we have scored a lot from corners and free kicks so to buy someone with some of the best delivery outside of the top 6 would suite our needs and ensure that we cause problems when we get the chance.
We would have to create a formation that covers for his weaknesses, not blessed with pace, but certainly a sensible signing on paper in my eyes.

Mind you, I still hate the guy but then again hated Warnock when he managed other teams

The dead ball bit is important, almost certainly Warnock will try and sign one to getter better quality balls into the box for Morrison, Bamba, Patterson our new Striker and whoever else to get on the end of !!!

Re: UPDATED “ ROBERT SNODGRASS DONE DEAL? “

Most of these stories are either made up by agents, or guesswork because Warnock has mentioned the players in his book or in an interview if Warnock said Rooney has been one of Englands best players ever we would be linked with him.

If this was one of the few true stories, I wouldn't mind he is a decent player at our level, and he seems to give everything, which is what Cardiff fans love in a player, effort over ability.

Be well pleased with this if it comes off. Exactly the type of player we need a balance between a bit of class and a fair bit of bite at the same time plus an excellent free kick taker.

Yup Agree, I think he'll play the highest from a middle three.
Ralls and a good holding midfielder and our midfield isn't looking too shabby.
If we can get another decent winger on free / Loan ( Harry Wilson comes to mind ) Then i'll be very happy.
I think Madine & Zohore will do well with Snodgrass on the pitch.
We do however need another striker.

Re: UPDATED “ ROBERT SNODGRASS DONE DEAL? “

Tue Jun 05, 2018 10:36 am

Can see him playing behind striker rather than on the wing. Think the role would suit him and would do well but way to slow to be on wing

Re: UPDATED “ ROBERT SNODGRASS DONE DEAL? “

Tue Jun 05, 2018 10:40 am

Grujic, Ralls and Snodgrass could work well as middle 3
