Reports in Sweden that Swansea City are to pay Swedish club Ostersunds compensation of nearly £700,000 to secure the services of manager-in-waiting Graham Potter are understood to be wide of the mark.

Potter is set to be formally confirmed as the new man in the Liberty Stadium hotseat early next week, with the Swans announcing on Monday that they had agreed a settlement with Ostersunds as well as tying up personal terms with the 43-year-old.

Potter is also bringing assistant Billy Reid and recruitment analyst Kyle Macaulay with him to South Wales.

As is the norm, Swansea have not disclosed the amount required to get their man but Fotball Direkt in Sweden - in a piece also including quotes from Ostersunds chairman Daniel Kindberg - report their sources had outlined the compensation sum, and the salary Potter will receive.

Fotboll Direkt states that Ostersunds are set to receive 8million Swedish Krona from Swansea, which works out at around £680,000.

However, Media Wales understands the figure paid to bring Potter and his backroom staff to South Wales works out at less than half of the reported sum.

The Swedish report also states Potter has seen his salary significantly increased by his return to English football, something that would come as little surprise given the differing financial resources between the domestic games in Sweden and England.

The former England Under-21 cap is said to have been on 3million Swedish Krona with Ostersund following a recent contract extension, which equates to just over £255,000 and made him the best paid manager in the Allsvenskan.

It is claimed that figure rises to between 11 and 12million Krona at Swansea, with the lower end of that scale coming in at approximately £930,000 a year.

But Media Wales understands that figure is considerably higher than the terms that have been agreed between the two parties.

"We have received a compensation that is respectful and I am pleased with. There has been no discussion. If we had not been satisfied, I would have shown it very loudly," Kindberg told Fotboll Direkt .

"Otherwise, I have no comments more than that they are three names we will miss, not least as people. But at the same time we have been economically compensated in a very, very good way."
