Cardiff City plan move for Jamie Vardy V9 academy star Rob Pryce

HITC SPORT

Sunday 10th June 2018

HITC Sport understands Cardiff City are lining up move for TNS defender Ryan Pryce, who impressed at Jamie Vardy's V9 academy.

Premier League new boys Cardiff City are planning an offer for The New Saints defender Ryan Pryce to fend off interest from other clubs. Pryce caught the eye at this week's V9 academy - run by Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy - a person familiar with the situation told HITC.

Pryce was invited to attend the V9 academy this week as Vardy looks to give non-league players the chance to break into league football.

Right-back Pryce has impressed at Welsh side TNS since breaking into the first-team in 2015 and he won himself a trial at Middlesbrough last year.

The attacking defender is highly-regarded at TNS and scouts from clubs higher up the football pyramid have been keeping tabs on his progress for some time. Pryce has been a stand-out performer during the V9 academy trials and a number of Premier League sides have now been alerted to his potential.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock celebrates after the Sky Bet Championship match between Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest at Cardiff City Stadium on April 21, 2018 in Cardiff, Wales.

Cardiff City, however, are determined to steal a march on their rivals by tabling an offer for Pryce as they look to bring the former Shrewsbury youngster to the Welsh capital for next season.

TNS are resigned to losing Pryce and are unlikely to stand in his way if Cardiff or another of his suitors makes an offer for his services.

His name is Ryan Pryce

TNS defender Ryan Pryce lands place in Jamie Vardy academy

Versatile The New Saints defender Ryan Pryce has been handed a chance to impress Football League scouts.

The 20-year-old has landed a place in this summer’s V9 academy, run by Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

Pryce, from Shawbirch in Telford, can play either left or right-back and had a trial at Championship outfit Middlesbrough 12 months ago.

He joined the Welsh Premier League champions on a two-year scholarship after he was released by Shrewsbury aged 15 and has been a key player since breaking into the first team.

Vardy famously played for Stocksbridge Park Steels, FC Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town before making his name with the Foxes – winning the Premier League in 2016.

And he decided to set up the academy to give other non-league players the chance to break through.

Last year Market Drayton goalkeeper Ash Rawlins, who also had a couple of appearances for AFC Telford, was selected and enjoyed a five-day trial period at Manchester City’s Etihad training base.

No risk involved with this one. Might as well bring him in and see what he can do. Hopefully he'll turn into another Mark Delaney.

Didn't Rhys Healey come from the Welsh prem? As long as he doesn't cost too much why not give him a try. Look at Vardy and how his Career went!

Exactly, nothing wrong with this. Shows we’re scouting properly, and NW knows a player when he sees it. I like these type of signings as it’s value in the market. Say they pick him up for buttons and sell him for 200% profit in 3 years, that’s good business. Vardy is the ultimate example......and nearly signed for Arsenal for silly money. Mahrez another (granted a different league - but lower French tier is appalling standard). It’s all good, no risk. Clubs are picking up development players all the time from lower tier and non league. Happy days.

Clubs often buy players knowing they won't make the first team but that after a loan somewhere they may have a resale value. This happens even more so in the Prem.
