Graham Potter has been named Swansea City's new manager as they attempt to rebuild in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League.

He has joined from Swedish club Ostersund FK on a three-year deal.

Assistant manager Billy Reid and recruitment analyst Kyle Macaulay will also move to south Wales.

The 43-year-old has succeeded Carlos Carvalhal, who departed after they went down on the final day of 2017-18.

Potter has guided Ostersund from the regional tiers in Sweden to the top-flight Allsvenskan with three promotions, winning the Swedish Cup along the way.

"It's a chance to start again,'' said Potter.

"We know how frustrating the last few years have been, but hopefully the relegation will be seen in a few years' time as the best thing that ever happened to the club.

"We will try our best and work hard every day to give the supporters a team they can feel proud of; they can connect with and see are trying to improve."

That is a very odd statement to make from a new manager. Sounds like he's going to fit right in.

Hopefully he'll be saying May 2019 that "consecutive relegations could be the best thing to happen to this club"

Misquote above? He actually said relegation could have been good thing for club and now chance to rebuild? Which in a way is correct because as a club they've lost their way and now opportunity to rebuild start again.

He'll be gone by January. This appointment smacks of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. I never understand why clubs who get relegated don't appoint someone who's been there, done it and got promotions out of this league, or at the very least had some experience in this league. Could they not have got Dean Smith, Nigel Warburton, Gus Poyet, or Chris Wilder if they wanted to play their ticki tacka football. At least those guys have had experience of managing in the championship and at a high level not a tiny semi-pro club like Oestusunds who finished 5th in their league in which the standard of football is the equivalent to league 2 football. But hey? Its not our club so who gives a s*it?
