' Stoke City after Cardiff City Star '

According to the Stoke Sentinel, Cardiff City winger Junior Hoilett is a transfer target for Stoke City. The Canadian international is out of contract with the promoted Bluebirds, and the fact he hasn’t yet penned an extension has interested Gary Rowett.

Saturday 16th June 2018

The 28-year-old previously played under Neil Warnock during their time together at Queens Park Rangers. However, recently speaking with the BBC, Warnock has revealed that there is a ‘slight problem’ regarding the conversations they are having with Hoilett over agreeing an extension. Cardiff have produced a ‘very good offer’ to try and keep the former Blackburn Rovers youngster in the Welsh capital, but Stoke are clearly very keen.

It therefore remains to be seen if the player will accept the offer of a two-year extension to stay at the Cardiff City Stadium. Given the impact he has made at this level, this has led to Rowett expressing a desire to snap him up at the bet365 Stadium. Stoke are one of the early pre-season favourites for promotion, with the former Derby boss expected to sign several new faces this summer, after being handed a strong budget to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Interesting, Cardiff have already signed up Josh Murphy from Norwich City this summer for a fee of £11million. He is a left winger, which is often the role Hoilett employs in Warnock’s starting eleven as well. Therefore, it could be that he does indeed move on this summer, with Stoke believed to be the frontrunners in this particular moment in time.

Junior Hoilett: Cardiff City future unclear

BBC

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock says there is a "slight problem," in the negotiations to keep winger Junior Hoilett at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Hoilett, whose contract expires at the end of June, scored 11 goals in 50 games for the Bluebirds as they were promoted to the Premier League.

Cardiff are also negotiating with Iceland midfielder Aron Gunnarsson whose deal also expires in June.

Warnock explained that it is unclear whether either player will stay.

"Junior we've made a very good offer, but it has not been finalised yet," he said.

"There is a slight problem there and we will have to see if it turns into anything major or if he still wants to be on board.

"I think this is the best place for him, but you do have to have your principles as well, so let's see if we can sort it out in the next few weeks."

Negotiations with Gunnarsson are ongoing, with talks continuing even while the player trains with Iceland ahead of their World Cup opener.

"We are speaking to Gunnarsson's agent, he is trying to get fit for the World Cup at the moment," Warnock confirmed.

Warnock says it is likely some players will depart the Welsh capital as he still intends to make further signings.

"Nearer the season we will make decisions on some players going," he told BBC Sport Wales.

"With two or three players we have said we will discuss their futures in pre-season.

"I am willing to let them go, if they want to go, as they might need to be playing more.

"Hopefully we've got a strong enough squad that some won't be able to get a look-in and they will want to play [elsewhere]. But we will see how we go."

We should try and keep hoilett for a season. He's been fantastic for us.

Bad move to lose him as it would cost millions to replace him.
But then you can’t just give in to all players demands. Tricky situation.

Where Cardiff City stand over Junior Hoilett's new contract offer as Stoke City are linked with Bluebirds winger

Saturday 16th June 2018

The Canadian is out of contract in a matter of weeks and his future remains uncertain.

Here's everything we know about his situation right now.

What's the latest with Hoilett?

Hoilett's current contract expires this summer, or at the end of June to be more precise.

It means that if he opts against signing fresh terms with the Bluebirds, he could depart South Wales in a matter of weeks.

The Bluebirds have of course offered him a much improved new deal - one that would keep him in the Welsh capital for at least another two years - ahead of their return to the Premier League, with goalkeeper Brian Murphy and midfield kingpin Aron Gunnarsson also offered fresh contracts.

But given that his current contract runs out on June 30, Hoilett doesn't have much longer to decide on his future.

So where do Stoke City come into things?

Former Derby County boss Gary Rowett has the difficult task of putting together a Stoke side he feels is capable of returning to the Premier League following the Potters' relegation from the division last month.

It's understood that he is on the lookout for a pacy winger to help bolster his squad, and in that regard, Hoilett certainly fits the bill.

And BBC Radio Stoke presenter Matt Sandoz claims the Potters want to take Hoilett to the bet365 Stadium this summer.

In a tweet, he wrote: "I understand Stoke City want the Cardiff City winger Junior Hoilett. The 28-year-old scored 11 goals last season and helped Cardiff win promotion to the Premier League. His contract runs out this month."

What has Neil Warnock said about the situation?

Speaking after the capture of winger Josh Murphy from Norwich City and full-back Greg Cunningham from Preston North End, Neil Warnock admitted there were still agreements to be made between the club and the players set to be out of contract in just two weeks.

"The other lads we’ve made offers to," said the Yorkshireman.

"We’ve not agreed everything. We’ve been talking to agents and I’m sure that’ll be resolved over the next few things. It wont be immediate.

"There’s nothing to say they’ll be signing in the next 48 hours or three or four days."

But having confirmed that improved offers were on the table for Hoilett and others, Warnock later admitted that there was a "slight problem" with the deal for the 28-year-old Canadian.

"Junior we've made a very good offer, but it has not been finalised yet," he told BBC Sport.

"There is a slight problem there and we will have to see if it turns into anything major or if he still wants to be on board.

"I think this is the best place for him, but you do have to have your principles as well, so let's see if we can sort it out in the next few weeks."

And what about Hoilett himself?

Hoilett has not discussed his situation publicly since being put on the spot by Warnock in front of thousands of Bluebirds fans outside Cardiff Castle during the club's open top bus parade a week after sealing their stunning promotion.

Warnock told fans: "We'd like to ask Junior Hoilett to come and say a few words because he's not signed his contract yet - but he's thinking about it!"

Asked on stage if he had a pen, Hoilett replied: "I've got one in my backpack."

The wideman - who joined Cardiff just days after Warnock was announced as the club's manager in October 2016 - has gone on to tease fans on social media, posting a cryptic message on his official Instagram account.

He shared an image on the site along with the caption: "New Chapter - New Goals - Same Team".

So when will be hear about Hoilett's future?

It was previously expected that the matter would have been resolved by now, with Hoilett - as well as Gunnarsson - expected to remain at Cardiff City Stadium.

But the complications mentioned by Warnock could mean the situation regarding Hoilett goes right down to the end of the month.

Unlike Gunnarsson, Hoilett won't be featuring at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, meaning he gets a deserved rest having starred for Canada at the Gold Cup ahead of the Bluebirds' promotion-winning campaign.

But the man who netted 12 times in all competitions for club and country last term doesn't have much longer to finalise his decision.

And with less than two months to go until the start of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign, Warnock will no doubt be eager for the situation to be resolved as swiftly as possible so he can continue his preparations for the season ahead.

Stoke City transfer news: Interest in Junior Hoilett as contract talks stall

Stoke News

Saturday 16th June 2018

Junior Hoilett is understood to be on Stoke City’s shortlist of wingers as he stalls over the offer of a new contract at Cardiff.

Hoilett, aged 28, has been reignited during a spell under Neil Warnock and enjoyed perhaps the best season of his career as he helped secure promotion to the Premier League, featuring in every game and scoring nine times.

But his deal runs out this summer and a new two-year-old contract put on the table remains unsigned.

Warnock said: "Junior we've made a very good offer, but it has not been finalised yet.

"There is a slight problem there and we will have to see if it turns into anything major or if he still wants to be on board.

"I think this is the best place for him, but you do have to have your principles as well, so let's see if we can sort it out in the next few weeks."

Hoilett was named players’ player of the season at Cardiff after they sealed a place in the top two.

The quick Canada left winger had joined from QPR in 2016 and last week Cardiff had been optimistic he would be extending his stay in South Wales on ‘substantially improved terms’.

This week Warnock has brought in Josh Murphy, who plays predominantly on the left flank, for £11m from Norwich City.

Gary Rowett is keen to bring in at least a couple of wide men, having already sold Ramadan Sobhi to Huddersfield for £5.7m and the anticipated departure of Xherdan Shaqiri. Doubts also remain over Max Choupo-Moting, who has two years remaining on his contract.

Two young wingers from the Premier League are also believed to be on the radar.

Thibaud Verlinden has returned from a difficult loan spell at St Pauli hoping to make his case to be involved in pre-season. The highly-rated 18-year-old suffered concussion in training and call-ups to Belgium’s youth team limited his chances in Germany.

Can't believe he doesn't want to stay with a good offer on the table, don't think Warnock will be bullied tho so if he wants to go crack on, think morrison needs to have a quiet word in his ear.

Can't get my head around why he would want to go championship. When he's at a team that's in the Premier league, don't look like any interest from any other Premier league clubs. He would be a big loss but wouldn't want a player that doesn't want to be here.

Stoke is further away from his London home aswell.
The only reason for him to choose stoke if for money. Would be disappointing if he chose them over premier league football

Still think that there is a very good chance that he will sign his contract but you look for reasons why he would look to move. The obvious reason is money but could it be that Hoilett would be more ‘comfortable’ playing in the Championship? For me he was our player of the season but he is no spring chicken. Is Hoilett up for playing a season at the top level?

The pace & quality in the Premiership is completely different to that in the Championship. You couldn’t work out why he would want to play in the Championship is that a possibility?

We don't know what is happening behind the scenes maybe he will not be guaranteed 1st team football now we have Josh just wondering

I’m still hopeful he and Gunnar will stay. I trust Warnock - he knows what he’s doing and if neither stay, i trust him to get other players in that’ll work for us. C’est la vie.

If he doesn't want to play for us it's bye bye and no lost sleep from me, Murphy looks a better option anyhow I think that's why Neil got him so quickly

With our pay restraints, £15-20,000 a week tops. Stoke, £30-40,000 a week no doubt. Oh and a signing on fee, for him and his agent.
