The Cardiff City latest transfer Rumours/News: Bluebirds chasing former Everton and Newcastle star as Stoke City move for Junior Hoilett

Cardiff City are reportedly weighing up a move for Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling, but are still sweating on new deals for Junior Hoilett and Aron Gunnarsson.

Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting the Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock is ready to splash out £5million on Gosling, who's become a key player for Bournemouth since arriving on a free transfer back in 2014.

News over Cardiff's possible interest has come on the back of a busy week of activity for the Bluebirds, who have already completed deals for Norwich City winger Josh Murphy and Preston North End full-back Greg Cunningham.

The next seven days could well be just as intriguing, with boss Neil Warnock making little secret of his desire to make further additions, revealing this week that the club have already made "three or four" loan bids , before adding that he'd like to complete two more permanent deals before the transfer window slams shut.

It remains to be seen if Gosling is one of those possible permanent deals, particularly given that he only signed a new four-year contract at the club last summer.

There are other implications, such as the possible effect a move for the 28-year-old will have on Cardiff's interest in bringing Marko Gruijic back to the Welsh capital.

The Serb, who's currently away at the World Cup in Russia, enjoyed a highly successful six-month loan spell with City, and parent club Liverpool are believed to be open to letting him go out on a temporary basis once again this summer.

However, Cardiff's hopes of securing a reunion could be under threat, with Serie A giants Lazio now understood to be interested in the midfielder , albeit on a permanent basis.

Given his involvement at the World Cup, his future is unlikely to be resolved until after the tournament in Russia.

Also at this summer's showpiece is midfielder Gunnarsson who, along with Hoilett, is yet to sign a new deal at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The club are keen on keeping both players, although the latter is, rather worryingly, emerging as a target for Stoke City, with Warnock admitting that there has been a 'slight problem' with negotiations.

While there is always the possibility that Stoke could trump the terms offered by Cardiff, one has to wonder if the Canadian would really be willing to turn his back on playing Premier League football to once again drop down to the Championship.

Meanwhile, the club are also keen on tying down winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing to a new and improved deal, with his current contract set to expire next summer.

The winger emerged as one of Cardiff's key players during what was a breakout season last term, and the club are subsequently hoping to ensure that he commits his long-term future to the team, ahead of their return to the Premier League.

This week saw the club also release its retained list for the upcoming season, with back-up goalkeeper Brian Murphy one of several players to sign a new deal at the club. Matty Kennedy, Greg Halford and Ben Wilson are the most prominent names to have been released.

Finally, one man that look set to stay at the Cardiff City Stadium this summer is Joe Bennett.

The former Aston Villla ace was heavily-linked with Fulham last week, amid suggestions that the Cottagers were willing to trigger a £2million release clause.

However, it's emerged this week that reports into the existence of such a clause are wide of the mark , with the club understood to be keen on keeping Bennett in the Welsh capital.
