Aron Gunnarsson on stopping Messi
18/06/18
Iceland’s fairytale story entered a new chapter over the weekend after another solid and resilient performance helped hold Lionel Messi’s Argentina to a 1-1 draw.
Speaking after the game, Cardiff’s very own Aron Gunnarsson revealed that attention has already turned to Nigeria, before lifting the lid on exactly what it’s like to stop one of the world’s best players.
“If you stand by and idolise him, he’s going to go past you and he’s going to score, he’s going to take advantage of that. It’s just important to respect the guy and play your normal football.”
