WATFORD FC:
In Profile: Cardiff City
Ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League season, watfordfc.com takes a look at each of the three new additions to the league.
The Manager
Neil Warnock
The wily Cardiff coach has achieved eight promotions in his managerial career. He won many plaudits last season for orchestrating the Bluebirds' rise despite limited resources compared to some of their Championship rivals.
Key Players
Aron Gunnarsson
Currently representing Iceland at the World Cup, the combative midfielder's deal is set to expire this month, but the Bluebirds are keen to extend his seven-year stay in Wales.
Junior Hoilett
Another out-of-contract player, Hoilett possesses the valuable commodity of searing pace, and has top-flight experience from his time with Queens Park Rangers.
Callum Paterson
Converted from a right-back to a midfielder, the Scot enjoyed a wonderful goalscoring season in 2017/18, netting 10 times.
Stadium
Cardiff played host to one of Watford's most memorable matches in the Millenium Stadium - the Championship play-off final in 2006 - so hopefully the Cardiff City Stadium will be equally fortunate for the Golden Boys.
Top-Flight History
Malky Mackay last led the Bluebirds into the Premier League, but they only won seven league games all season, and a 3-0 defeat at St James' Park by Newcastle United eventually relegated the Welsh side.
Transfers So Far
Josh Murphy joined last week for a reported £11 million. A flair player who can operate from both flanks, his twin brother plays for Newcastle United.
The Bluebirds have also moved swiftly to snap up Greg Cunningham from Preston North End. The left wing-back cost a reported £4 million.
