'ENGLAND V SWEDEN - ONLY 2,800 TICKETS SOLD! '

Sat Jul 07, 2018 10:16 am

Well, well, well. They chanted 'There'll be no sheep shaggers in Moscow' enough but less than 3000 are supporting their team in the WC quarter finals tonight. 10, 000 tickets unsold. No doubt the plastic chair throwers will be lively in Magaluf et al later where there is zero chance of encountering those nasty Russians.

10,000 tickets unsold for England game - but it's too late to get there now
10:34, UK, Saturday 07 July 2018

Around 10,000 tickets remain unsold for the quarter-final World Cup clash between England and Sweden.

But even if fans caught the quickest flight now to Samara in Russia, at just over six hours, it is too late for them to get there for the kick-off at 3pm UK time.

As it is just 2,836 tickets have been sold to England supporters for the game, where they are expected to be vastly outnumbered by Swedish fans.

In comparison, more fans are expected to watch the game at a single free screening at Nottingham Castle, where there will be 3,000 cheering on England.

England are looking to get through to their first World Cup semi-final since Italia 90, but have to improve on their record of one win, two defeats and five draws in major tournaments and qualifying campaigns against the Scandinavians.

Back in the UK, amid sweltering temperatures, millions are due to tune in on TV to cheer on the Three Lions.

There had been suggestions of a surge in online interest in the game after England beat Colombia on penalties in the round of 16.

Skyscanner has reported a 189% increase in flight searches to Samara this week, while the Foreign Office said there had been a 165% surge in views of its "entering and leaving Russia" pages.

Sky News' senior correspondent David Bowden, who is on the ground in Samara, bumped into two German fans who had only bought tickets for the quarter-final six months ago because, in their own words, they were "arrogant" to assume the 2014 champions, who were knocked out in the group stages, would get this far.

Both said they would be supporting Sweden, not because they want England to lose, but because they want Germany to remain the only team to beat the Scandinavian side in this World Cup.

I see you've already been heavily shot down over your England love-in posts. You only joined the forum in May and it's only taken you just under a 100 posts to prove you are a world-class-weapon. Do you practice being a bellwhiff or is it inherited?

In all fairness its almost Kazakstan and they had 4 days to arrange it, its not easy.

England's numbers have in Russia have been poor, and yes I would expect them to take more, but I would be
a bit reluctant to criticise them to much

Its not that long ago we played Scotland at the CCS in front of 13,000 and just under half of them were Scottish.

And don't forget on that awful night at Wembley :( we did not sell out our tickets, think we took 2,000  absolutely shocking turnout that was.
