UP TO SIX MORE CARDIFF PLAYERS TO LEAVE & THEY HAVE TO LEAVE

Postby Forever Blue » Thu Jul 12, 2018 1:23 pm

The Premier League squad rules that suggest up to SIX players will leave Cardiff City this summer -

Rhys Healey, Lee Camp, Omar Bogle, Stuart O'Keefe and Lee Tomlin are favourites to all leave.

And others including Anthony Pilkington, Kadeem Harris and Gary Madine are way down the list for starting in the Premier League.

Cardiff City are just weeks away from making their Premier League return.

Neil Warnock has already added four new recruits to his squad as well as ensuring that several key stars have committed their futures to the club by signing extended deals with the Bluebirds.

The Yorkshireman is also keen to make two more loan signings - with Liverpool's Marko Grujic being one and a striker the other - in a bid to ensure that Cardiff have the best possible chance of preserving their place in the promised land come the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

However, due to the Premier League's squad rules, it seems - as well as the additions - there could be some high-profile exits from Cardiff City Stadium this summer.

The likes of Greg Halford and Matthew Kennedy have already been released by the club, although the former is still training with the Bluebirds along with out-of-contract winger Liam Feeney who had two loan spells with Cardiff from Blackburn Rovers last term.

But it appears there could well be further exits.

Rules in the top flight state that all 20 clubs have to submit 25-man squad lists following the conclusion of the summer transfer market, a list that they can alter again during the January window.

Of those 25 players, no more than 17 are allowed to be non-home grown.

Premier League home grown player rules

An HGP means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).

Under-21 players do not count towards this criteria, meaning the likes of Mark Harris or Cameron Coxe could feature for the first team next term without taking up a slot in the 25-man squad.

But following the Bluebirds' transfer dealings so far, it does mean some will miss out.

Including the four new recruits, Cardiff currently have 29 first team stars, but that does not include either Halford or Feeney, nor does it include the two potential loan additions.

If you include the two loan men Warnock is hoping to add to his ranks, that takes it up to 31, meaning six players could miss out on the Premier League squad.

Cardiff City's first team squad

Camp, Etheridge, B Murphy, Smithies; Peltier, Bennett, Morrison, Manga, Richards, Bamba, Connolly, Paterson, Cunningham; Ralls, K Harris, Pilkington, Gunnarsson, Damour, O'Keefe, J Murphy, Hoilett, Mendez-Laing, Tomlin; Ward, Zohore, Bogle, Healey, Madine, Reid.

Of course, this means Warnock could trim his squad by sending some of his troops out on loan, or even axing them completely by shipping them on to new clubs.

So who are the men most at risk?

Rhys Healey, Lee Camp, Omar Bogle, Stuart O'Keefe and Lee Tomlin were all sent out on loan last term along with forward Ibrahim Meite (not included in the aforementioned 29) who has been offered a new deal by the Bluebirds.

Given that Meite turns 22 later this month, he will no longer come into the Under-21 category, although he could still sign fresh terms with the club and move out on loan, or even continue his development with the Under-23 side.

But as for the other five, they could all potentially start the new season playing away from South Wales.

Nottingham Forest are understood to be interested in a deal for Tomlin while you'd expect Neil Etheridge, Alex Smithies and Brian Murphy all to feature ahead of Camp in the pecking order for the goalkeeper's jersey.

Healey and Bogle both still have two years remaining on their current deals with the club and could once again be sent out on loan while O'Keefe is another likely to depart this summer.

And others including Anthony Pilkington, Kadeem Harris and Gary Madine could well find themselves down the Premier League pecking order.

So while there's been huge excitement over the recent incomings, don't be at all surprised to see multiple exits in the not-too-distant future.

Unless a new striker comes in I’d hang onto Bogle. Camp, Tomlin and Harris likely to be loaned out or moved on. Pilkington is another, which I feel bad as even as a bit part sub he seemed to always produce goals when we needed them the most.

Jazz is homegrown haha

Am i the only one who wants to see Tomlin stay? A fit and healthy Tomlin has the potential to unlock defences or do something that other Cardiff City players don't do.

Of course its down to Tomlin to make this happen and prove he worthy to be included in the 25 man squad.

I think most would have a fit and healthy Tomlin here but I think most think it wont happen and judging my the pictures from preseason he hasn't learnt.

your not the only one but id love to know where this blind belief comes from...
6 prem apps for Bournemouth before Howe got shot..
half a season at Brisol before joihnson started to lose faith
and less than that here, yes there were a few nice touches but generally if he is on the pitch your playing with 10.
then there was the Forest loan which has been painted by some as a sort of success....well he looks no fitter, Forest who are throwing money around havent made a bid..or has any other club...and to date he has cost us at least a 7 figure amount in wages...i dont see anyone buying him any time soon though..another loan with us stumping up part wages ?
