NEIL WARNOCK:SPEAKS ABOUT THE TRANSFERS & HIS PLANS

By Matthew Southcombe

Here's what Warnock had to say...

Question: Neil, the Premier League has kicked you in the teeth before...

Neil Warnock: " I think football does kick you in the teeth, things have changed so much over the years since I started.

"I look around the room now, when I first started it was great, I had the press guy on the bus with me.

"It’s sad really, that nowadays you’re always aware that there are headline hunters and tabloids. I’m aware of certain papers and certain journalists.

"But there’s a lot of good people in the media. I try and speak to people and ring people back. If you treat them like that, it’s the way forward.

"Everyone has a job to do in football. It’s still a great league to be in.

"My daughter pointed out to me that there are only 20 managers in the Premier League.

"It’s a great achievement and eight promotions, for me, is a great achievement.

"I said to Vincent that if the worst comes to the worst and you sack me by Christmas, I’ll go back to the Championship and go for number nine.

"When you’re a younger manager, you take everything on board and it hurts a bit more."

Q: What will you say to the players in the dressing room before the game?

NW: "How the hell have we got here?

"My lads know me inside out, they make me very proud.

"I want us to play well, that’s all. I want us to avoid mistakes and try and do well at the other end.

"We’ve got to build as we go along.

"First home game coming up next week, it’s going to be a busy period.

"One thing about our lads, the fans know, is that they’re going to give everything.

"That’s all you can ask for in our situation. Let’s look forward to it and give it a go."

Q: For whatever reason, at QPR and Crystal Palace you didn't make the end of the season. Do you expect to make the end of the season here?

NW: "I don’t really know which way they’ll go if I didn’t make the end of the season if I’m honest.

"But that’s not my situation. All I can do is be straightforward with Vincent and Mehmet.

"Mehmet Dalman has been unbelievable, I couldn’t have done anything without him. Ken Choo has been helping me as well the last few weeks.

"They know I’ve not thrown money at it, I’ve been sensible in everything I’ve done.

"But now the challenge is to go that step beyond that.

"It’s not like when I was at QPR, when we were promoted in April and not able to sign anyone until three days before the end of August.

"There were other circumstances at Sheffield United, which we won’t go into.

"The only thing I’ve missed out on is having about £100 million to spend or something like that but what would I do with £100 million?

"I’ve never had a good track record with signings.

"I said to Bobby Reid ‘I could do with coming off son’.

"I’m sure we can entertain and give you something to write about."

Q: Are you expecting any movement in the loan window?

NW: "Yea there will be.

"We’ve had quite a number of offers but, first things first, lets get yesterday and tomorrow out of the way.

"Then we can concentrate on that.

"There are two or three lads looking to go out."

Q: Yourself and the players seem quite relaxed, there doesn't appear to be too much trepidation?

NW: " I think so, yea, that’s how we’ve got to go into it.

"The lads know, and I know, that we’re going to be up against it.

"But they’ve shown last year, at times, they can roll their sleeves up.

"I think I’ve helped by bringing in a little bit of quality into the squad now, which you’ve got to have at the top level.

"We’ve also brought in people with things to prove. It’s a nice recipe and I’m looking forward to managing them as best I can."

Q: Do you ever tire of proving people wrong?

NW: "No, I don’t think so.

"I think the reason I’m still sat at this table now is because I’ve always wanted to prove people wrong, whether it be a chairman or a club or whatever.

"Everybody has to have motivation.

"As a player, when I got a free transfer, I wanted to prove the manager wrong when I went off to my next club.

"As a manager, it’s a similar thing. When somebody has let me down and I wanted to show them what I could do, and fans.

"It’s lovely to get promotion like last year and see a number of clubs below you who should have been doing better.

"I get a bit of satisfaction from it, if I’m honest."

Q: How did the Victor Camarasa deal come about?

NW: "He played at Bournemouth on the Friday and he was mentioned to me before that.

"We had somebody at the game, we talked to him at great length and once we knew he was considering coming to us then it became a new ball game. He’s a good player.

"I think he’s got something to prove, he wants to show Real Betis what he can do.

"He’s at a lovely age, 24. He can play, he’s comfortable on the ball. He adds another string to our bow."

Q: He's obviously got a good attitude, he didn't play much last season and turned down the opportunity to move...

NW: "He wanted to stay loyal to the club.

"I’m not saying it’s wrong but the way Betis play with the passing, it doesn’t suit certain styles.

"He wants to be making runs into the box, having shots, tackling and stuff and that suits the way we play."

Q: Your 25-man squad, have you decided on that yet?

NW: "More or less.

"There's one decision to make now, different to what I was thinking to yesterday, so we'll have to make that in the next 24 hours or so."

Q: On Bournemouth, is it good to have them early because it's a good lesson in a different style of football?

NW: " Their front four is as good as anything in the league - the two wide players and the two strikers.

"It’ll be a big test for us but I think we should just go in there with an open mind.

"We know it’s going to be hard but we’ve got to do the best we can and learn quickly."

Football is all about money unfortunately money wins most of the time.
Last year was a big ask and we got promoted.
This is a massive challenge now the lowest budget in the prem makes us favourite to go down.
I think we have been naive in the money we have spent and expect to stay up.
I think once your up its such an a achievement you have to stay up and build from it each season like Bournemouth do.

If that's the money the club have fair enough but we seem to be prepared already to go down with the players we have.
If Warnock pulls this off and we stay up it will be his best achievement.
You have to admire the man he's just got on with it people say he's not a perm manager but he's never had a fair chance and its the same this year look what wolves and Fulham have spent.
Pay peanuts get monkeys but I do just feel that in this team and in Warnock they all have something to prove so I'm back the heart over brain and say we will stay up.
Can't wait for it good luck to all at city just go for it . :bluescarf:
