Grimsby Town interested in loan move for Cardiff City striker Rhys Healey – reports
By Callum Ellis

League Two side Grimsby Town are interested in bringing in Cardiff City striker Rhys Healey on loan, according to reports.

Healey has been omitted from the Bluebirds’ 25-man squad for the Premier League campaign, along with Lee Tomlin, Anthony Pilkington, Ibrahim Meite and Stuart O’Keefe.

According to Wales Online, the striker is set for a loan move to the Mariners as he goes in search of first team football.

Healey has struggled to nail down a place in the first team since joining the Bluebirds from Welsh Premier League side Connah’s Quay Nomads in 2013.

The striker made his senior debut for Cardiff during the final game of their last Premier League outing – a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea at the Cardiff City Stadium.

But has since enjoyed loan spells with Colchester United, Dundee, Newport County and Torquay United.

The 23-year-old has made 13 appearances for the Bluebirds, and netted his only goal for the club against Burton Albion during the 2016-17 campaign.

But after suffering a serious knee injury during the Cardiff’s 5-0 win over Rotherham United, Healey missed the remainder of the campaign.

He made his return from injury against Fulham in December 2017, before joining Torquay on loan until the end of the season.

Healey featured eight times for the Gulls in the National League last term and netted six goals.
