The Premier League results predicted - Cardiff City v Newcastle, shock score for Liverpool and every game forecast
By Nathan Blake
Friday 17th August 2018
It's week two of the Premier League and Cardiff City legend and WalesOnline columnist Nathan Blake has taken a peek into his crystal ball.
Who will be the winners - and losers? These are the Blakey predictions for every match.
SATURDAY
Cardiff City v Newcastle (12.30pm)
The Bluebirds have to bounce back from their defeat at Bournemouth and I think they'll do just that. Newcastle don't have great goalpower and that will play into Cardiff's hands. I fancy one of the big centre-backs to nab a goal from a set-piece - Neil Warnock style.
Blakey's verdict: 1-0
Everton v Southampton (3pm)
I've a lot of time for Marco Silva and Everton are looking strong. They were a man down against Wolves, yet were still the better team and should have won. My old Wales boss Mark Hughes kept Southampton up last season, but they'll struggle for goals this term. We've already seen evidence of that with a 0-0 draw against Burnley.
Blakey's verdict: 2-0
Leicester v Wolves (3pm)
Claude Puel's side were desperately unlucky to lose their opener at Manchester United and for large chunks were the better side. Wolves have spent a fortune, but they've in effect got a whole new team and let's see just how they gel.
Blakey's verdict: 2-1
Tottenham v Fulham (3pm)
I know they won up at Newcastle, but Spurs looked a big leggy for me - an extraordinary thing to say considering the season has only just started. Harry Kane didn't look sharp after his World Cup exploits and we know about his August goal jinx. Fulham lost at home to Palace, but they're better than that.
Blakey's verdict: 1-1
West Ham v Bournemouth (3pm)
There's not much between these two sides. Cardiff's conquerors head to London boosted by winning their opening game, for a change, but I fancy Marco Arnautovic to hit form early doors and bag a couple. Too tight to call.
Blakey's verdict: 2-2
Chelsea v Arsenal (5.30pm)
It's been an unsettled summer for Chelsea, with Thiabaut Courtois leaving and the frenzied speculation surrounding Eden Hazard. But they'll be a strong force this year under their new manager. In fact, don't be surprised to see them make the top two. Arsenal are work in progress under Unai Emery, who's been handed a daunting start.
Blakey's verdict: 3-1
SUNDAY
Man City v Huddersfield (1.30pm)
Pep's champions have simply picked up where they left off. If anything they've got stronger, with Benjamin Mendy on the left and Riyad Mahrez having signed. That's a quite frightening prospect. Huddersfield will be in trouble this year.
Blakey's verdict: 5-0
Burnley v Watford (1.30pm)
This has got draw written over it as Sean Dyche's men return from Europa League action and Watford seek to build upon their opening day win over Brighton. Two evenly matched sides.
Blakey's verdict: 2-2
Brighton v Man Utd (4pm)
I suspect it'll be nip and tuck throughout. Brighton may even be the better side for large periods, but Manchester United have this knack of being able to soak up pressure and just do enough to get over the line. I feel they will again
Blakey's verdict: 1-2
MONDAY
Crystal Palace v Liverpool (8pm)
Liverpool have won their last few games at Selhurst Park, but prior to that it seemed to be a ground where they struggled and I suspect that will prove the case again. Wilf Zaha's decision to sign a new contract has given Palace a boost and whilst Liverpool are formidable, they are not unbeatable. And I reckon there could be a Monday night shock here.
Blakey's verdict: 2-1
