About Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town Association Football Club is a professional football club in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England, which competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.

In 1926, Huddersfield became the first English club to win three successive league titles, a feat which only three other clubs have matched. The first two league titles were won under manager Herbert Chapman, who also led the club to the FA Cup in 1922. In the late 1950s the club was managed by Bill Shankly and featured Denis Law and Ray Wilson. Following relegation from the First Division in 1972, Huddersfield spent 45 years in the second, third and fourth tiers of English football, before returning to the top flight in 2017 under manager David Wagner.
Nicknamed The Terriers, the club plays in blue and white vertically-striped shirts and white shorts. They play their home games at the Kirklees Stadium.

Going to be a repeat of Newcastle United I think. Huddersfield got hammered today and they'll be determined to get some points at this stage in a home game.
Another case of where both teams think they're playing someone on the list of teams they can and need to beat.

Huddersfield Town made bookies' favourites for Cardiff City clash

Huddersfield Town have been made favourites for their weekend clash with Cardiff City.

The Terriers take on the Bluebirds at the John Smith's Stadium in the Premier League this Saturday, with both sides looking to record a first win of the season.

Town prop up the table after two matches against Chelsea and Manchester City, while Neil Warnock's men drew against Newcastle United last time out to record their first point in the top flight since April 19, 2014.

Despite Town's tough opening, David Wagner's men have been given odds of 13/10 by SkyBet to beat the south Wales side, while a Cardiff victory is available at 12/5.

The draw is priced up at 2/1.

The shortest odds available on a specific scoreline is 9/2 for a 1-0 Town win or 1-1 draw, while a 1-0 win for the visitors is priced at 13/2 and a goalless draw is set at 6/1.

In terms of Town goalscorers, Steve Mounie is at 13/8 to score at any time, followed by Laurent Depoitre (2/1), Adama Diakhaby (5/2) and Alex Pritchard (11/4).

Bobby Reid leads the Cardiff goalscorer betting at 9/4, with Kenneth Zohore (5/2), Gary Madine and ex-Terrier Danny Ward (both 3/1) at slightly longer odds.

If you fancy a hat trick to be scored at the John Smith's Stadium this week, Mounie (50/1) and Depoitre lead the betting for Town, while Reid (100/1) is at the shortest odds for the Bluebirds.

Re: TEAM NEWS “ HUDDERSFIELD TOWN v CARDIFF CITY “ MATCH THR

Tue Aug 21, 2018 9:56 pm

Michael Oliver has been named as the referee for Cardiff City’s third Premier League game of the season when the Bluebirds travel to face Huddersfield Town at the Kirklees Stadium this weekend.

Oliver is an experienced official and has taken charge of various key fixtures over the years since being made an official in 2010.

The 33-year-old, from Northumberland, took charge of 43 games, producing a total of 151 yellow cards and seven red cards in the process during the 2017/2018 season.

He also took charge of the Bluebirds’ 1-1 draw with Sheffield United in the Sky Bet Championship last season as Anthony Pilkington struck late to earn the Bluebirds a point.
Oliver has also taken charge of two games so far this season and made the decision to send off Aaron Wan-Bissaka in yesterday’s game between Crystal Palace and Liverpool, as well as awarding Jurgen Klopp’s side a debatable penalty as the Reds defeated the Eagles at Selhurst Park 2-0.

He also took charge of Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Arsenal on the opening weekend of action, producing a total of four yellow cards at the Emirates.

He will now officiate his third game of the season as the Bluebirds seek to pick up their first three points of their Premier League campaign in West Yorkshire.

Huddersfield waiting on injured duo

Huddersfield will be hoping they can lift themselves off the foot of the table against Cardiff this weekend - having picked up no points yet following heavy defeats against Chelsea and Manchester City.

And they could be without a couple of players for the visit of Neil Warnock’s men - with David Wagner admitting a decision will be made late on concerning the fitness of injured duo Mathias Zanka Jorgensen and Jonathan Hogg.

We hope for it. I think the decision isn’t made so far.
We will have to see how the treatment and everything works.
So I think we can make a final decision very late in the week.

Huddersfield Town bidding to break 100,000 barrier against Cardiff City -

Pay on the day and tickets on General sale for home end

Huddersfield Examiner

Wednesday 22nd August 2018

Huddersfield Town are keen to power past 100,000 people watching them this season when they take on Cardiff City at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

David Wagner’s side were cheered on by 24,121 fans when they opened their Premier League campaign at home to Chelsea on August 11.

Then a total of 54,021 were at the Etihad Stadium - including almost 3,000 of the Blue and White faithful – for the match agaisnt champions Manchester City.

It means Town need 21,858 or more against Neil Warnock’s Welsh raiders to break the 100,000 barrier for three matches – and they are hoping to be well past that mark.

Tickets are now on general sale on line, by telephone (01484 960 606, option 2) and at the Ticket Office or pay on the day.

And this is a great chance for any floating supporters to not only back the club, but to create a booking history for future matches because, on this occasion, no booking history is required to buy tickets.

Like all top-flight matches, tickets are expected to be in demand, so the club recommend people act quickly if they want to be among the crowd.

And Town, Wagner and the players are keen to welcome as much support as possible to try and help the club chalk their first points of the season against newly-promoted Cardiff, who lost 2-0 at Bournemouth on the opening day but picked up a point form a goalless draw against Newcastle United last time out at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Terrier Members get reduced rates and prices are:

Adults - £30 (£28 for a Terrier Member).

Over 60s - £20 (£18 for a Terrier Member).

Under 18s - £15 (£13 for a Terrier Member).

Ambulant disabled supporters should pay their relevant price class, with an assistant permitted entry for free.

Tickets for wheelchair users are priced at £20 (£18 for a Terrier Member), with an assistant permitted entry for free.

Expected Huddersfield lineup (4-5-1)
Defence

Ben Hamer was at fault for at least a couple of Manchester City goals last weekend and he will look to put things right with a solid performance against Neil Warnock’s men.

Christopher Schindler and Terrence Kongolo have won just five aerial duels between them and will have to be at their best against the likes of Bobby Reid if they are to take anything from this game.

The absence of Jorgensen will mean that Wagner will field a four-man backline and Tommy Smith is his best choice at right-back. Chris Löwe and his experience could be crucial for the Terriers on the left side of the backline.

Midfield

Hogg is doubtful for this game so the manager has no choice but to use Jon Gorenc Stankovic, who scored their only goal so far this season, alongside Philip Billing and Aaron Mooy, both of who will add some balance to the midfield.

Florent Hadergjonaj has not been at his best but his industry and defensive abilities should see him start on the left flank, just ahead of Lowe. Alex Pritchard was one of the most impressive players for the team last weekend and should keep his place on the right side of the midfield.

Attack

With a total of 21 aerial duels won in the first two games, and an assist to his name, Steven Mounie is going to be the player to watch out for this weekend and will be the lone striker for the home side.

How should Cardiff City approach this weekend’s clash with Huddersfield Town? Is it a must-win already?

The two teams are strong favourites to fall through the Premier League trap door this season having failed to keep up with the investment levels of their rivals.

And so as the Bluebirds and the Terriers meet this weekend, there’s already a must-win feel to the game for both teams, despite this being just matchday three.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a must-win for either team, there are plenty more points up for grabs between now and the end of the season – the Premier League has only just begun.

However, it’ll be seen as at least a must-not-lose by both teams as they plot their route to survival.
With Wolves and Fulham spending so much upon their return to the top flight, this may well be the most difficult season to stay in the top flight.

Both Cardiff and Huddersfield will be well aware of that, but it won’t strike fear into either one of these teams who will feel like they have a lot less to lose compared to their rivals.

Huddersfield defied the odds to stay up last season after a surprise promotion during the 2016/17 season.

And Cardiff also defied the odds to make the Premier League, but they may have a tougher time of securing survival in their first season back in the big time.
Already, it’s difficult to see where the Bluebirds are going to get points from, but this trip to Huddersfield seems to be an opportunity they can’t pass up.

It’s going to be a difficult test, and no one will doubt that, not least Neil Warnock who returns to his old stomping ground this weekend.

However, there’s a feeling that Cardiff must break their scoring duck and pick up at least a vital away Premier League point, if not a win.

Especially given the nightmare September that awaits the Bluebirds.

“The dressing room is really strong” said Terence Kongolo as he explained how the players want to bounce back this weekend against Cardiff City.

When speaking to #HTTV ahead of this weekend’s match against Cardiff City, Town’s centre-back goes into detail about the strengths of the dressing room at the Club, whilst explaining how everyone is eager to bounce back.

Terence continued to explain how excited everyone is to get back at the John Smith’s Stadium playing in front of the Town supporters as well as explaining how they give him power!

The Dutch international looked ahead to the game against the Bluebirds and explained how much of a battle the game will be.

The 24-year-old discussed the differences to be playing with a five or four backline and how his relationship as a centre-half next to Christopher Schindler is growing, whilst revealing he knows how important this match is.

When speaking to #HTTV, Terence commented:

“I think the dressing room is really strong, we learnt a lot from our mistakes in the last two games. We now play at home and the whole team is ready for this game.

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner has said that his side will 'have to be at their best' when facing Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers have suffered heavy defeats to Chelsea and Manchester City, but Wagner's side are favourites to prevail against newly-promoted Cardiff at the John Smith's Stadium.

However, Wagner has been full of praise for the Welsh side, with Neil Warnock helping the Bluebirds to promotion against the odds last season.

At a press conference, the German told reporters: "We are aware of how Cardiff City will play; very physical and direct but they have a lot of quality in the final third. It'll be a tough test and we have to be on our best.

"Cardiff City are very good in their style, big credit to Neil for what he's done."

The two clubs both sit in the bottom five of the top-flight standings.

Cardiff travel to the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon, still searching for their first goal of the season.

The Bluebirds take on Huddersfield Town before facing three tricky league fixtures against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Neil Warnock’s men have taken a point from their opening two games, but Arter says it’s still very early days in the season.
“I don’t think three games in there are any ‘must-win’ games,” said Arter.

“But on paper it’s a side people expect to be down there along with us. These sorts of games are important even if it’s the third game or the 35th game.

“We want to get a win on the board and start scoring goals. Fingers crossed we can put in a positive performance.”
Arter addressed the Bluebirds’ goalscoring troubles in their opening two games, but feels the floodgates will open after they grab their first.

“It’s a worry because you need to score to win but you have to focus on the positives. But those things come with time and I’m hopeful once we score one they will start flowing.

“Now we’ve got a point we’ve got something to work and build on.”
